COUNCIL WORKSHOP
JUNE 15, 2009
The Clermont City Council met in a workshop on Monday, June 15, 2009 in the Council Chambers at
City Hall. Mayor Turville called the workshop to order at 6:OOpm with the following Council Members
present: Thompson, Mullins, Goodgame and Hogan. Other City officials present were: City Manager
Saunders, City Clerk Ackroyd and Assistant City Manager Gray.
Police Response -Rodney Lyons
Rodney Lyons was present questioning ongoing criminal activity in his neighborhood. Police Chief
Graham explained the Police Departments response procedures and suggested he and Mr. Lyons ride
together to identify specific areas of concern. Officers will continue to patrol that area.
Noise -Wally Herda
Wally Herda was present requesting noise regulations at the public parks and closing parks at a certain
hour. Council discussed contacting other municipalities to determine their maximum decibel level and
then return to Council for consideration.
Economic Visioning Survey -City Manager Saunders postponed the discussion of this item.
Budget
Staff reviewed preliminary budget cuts for next fiscal year and suggested using reserves to balance the
budget. Council was in agreement with the recommendations made by staff.
Capital Projects
Staff reviewed the capital projects and requested the Council prioritize the projects for budgeting
purposes. Council agreed to focus on West Park and the Historical Village then decide afterwards on the
Pavilion.
Red Light Cameras
City Manager Saunders advised Council the next step is to determine which intersections to place red
light cameras. Council will also need to decide whether to seek bids or piggy back from another agencies
contract and hire a special master for appeals. Council directed staff to pursue proposals then return to
Council for consideration.
Other
Mayor Turville requested fitness equipment be placed around Center Lake. City Manager Saunders noted
staff would obtain prices.
City Manager Saunders informed Council of an issue regarding residents not following the rules related to
sanitation. Staff suggested sending out notices to residents letting them know they are required to
purchase a second garbage can instead of allowing them to pile up excess trash next to the first container.
Council was in agreement to enforce the regulations. Furthermore, Mayor Turville recommended
including language in the notice about recycling.
