05-04-1971 Regular MeetingPLANNING AND ZONING COMMISION MEETING
A meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission was held in the
Council Chambers on Tuesday, May 4, 1971. The meeting was
called to order at 7:35 P. M. by Chairman Czech, with the follow-
ing Commission members present: Mesdames Allbright and Thomas
and Messrs. Seaver, Bratton, Winther, Cooks and Porter. Others
present were all the members of the City Council, City Manager
Hopkins, Cit.v Controller Fleming, Asst. Community Services
Director Nagel, Messrs. James Watkins and Sam Mazzotta of the
Lake County Planning Department, representatives of Poynter
and Harder Construction Co., Inc. and a group of city residents.
A representative of the local Press was also present.
Mr. Czech opened the meeting with a few words pertaining to
the published growth of Central Florida predicting 10,000,000
so called tourists coming to Florida 12 months after Disney World :~.
opens.
Mr. Watkins explained to the Commission the professional
planning services available to municipalities by the staff of the
Lake County Planning Department and the costs thereof with a
further explanation of how these costs are arrived at. A
lengthy question and answer period followed with regards the
services that could be offered to the city by the County
planning staff if engaged.
The City Manager and Council members were called up and each
expressed their views and opinions for the need of planning
guidance.
It was the consensus of the Planning and Zoning Commission that
recommendations be made to the Council that an agreement be
entered into with the Lake County Planning Department for their
services. Motion was made by Mr. Winther, seconded by Mrs.
Allbright, and carried, that the Commission recommend to
the City Council that an agreement be entered into with the
Lake County Planning Department for their planning staff
services.
Mr. John Harder of Poynter & Harder Construction Company, Inc.
presented a set of preliminary plans for their proposed mobile
home park. These plans were received by the Commission and
referred to the City Manager for review.
City Manager Hopkins suggested that the Commission consider
preparing an agenda for each of their future meetings.
Mr. Czech expressed his thanks to Mr. Watkins for his presentation,
and his appreciation to the City Council members and others for
their attendance.
Motion was made by Mr. Winther, seconded by Mrs. Thomas, and
carried, that the meeting be ad3ourned.
