Proclamation
National American Indian Heritage Month
WHEREAS, American Indians and Alaska Natives are a special part of the tapestry of
our Nation's History, and
WHEREAS, these people have played a vital role in the social, political and economic
fabric of our country, and
WHEREAS, their many contributions have enhanced the freedom, prosperity, and
greatness of America today, and
WHEREAS, the framers of our constitution incorporated Indian nations into the political
and legal framework of this country, forever joining the destiny of the tribal nations with
that of the American people, and
WHEREAS, our founders charged themselves and future generations with the moral
obligation to guard the rights and fundamental liberties with the country's tribal peoples,
and zealously, as we protect the right of all Americans, and
WHEREAS, In recognition of America's moral and legal obligations to American
Indians and Alaska Natives, and in light of the special trust relationship between tribal
governments and the Government of the United States of America, we celebrate the
month of November as National American Indian Heritage Month.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Harold Turville, by virtue of the authority vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Clermont, Florida, do hereby proclaim November 2009 National
American Indian Heritage Month with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seat of the City
of Clermont to be affixed this 27"' day of October, the year of our Lord, two thousand and
nine.
