COUNCIL WORKSHOP
NOVEMBER 9, 2009
The Clermont City Council met in a workshop on Monday, November 9, 2009 in the Council Chambers
at City Hall. Mayor Turville called the workshop to order at 6:00pm with the following Council Members
present: Thompson, Mullins, Hogan and Goodgame. Other City officials present were: City Manager
Saunders, City Clerk Ackroyd and Assistant City Manager Gray.
Jenkins Auditorium Analysis
Gatorsktch was contracted by the City to do a conditional survey of Jenkins from an architectural and
engineering standpoint. TLC Engineering joined Gatorsktch for site survey. Mike Latham presented the
architectural /engineering evaluation of Jenkins Auditorium to Council. Council also reviewed the
property condition evaluation of structural, mechanical, electrical elements for Jenkins. The cost to
remodel would be $1.19 million and the cost of a new building including demolition is $1.5 million.
Council discussed whether to build a new building on a separate location or the existing location of
Jenkins.
Council directed staff to obtain official word from the Chamber of Commerce as to their interest in a new
building.
Economic Development, Incentives, Brandin
Council Member Thompson proposed four (4) incentive plans to benefit businesses in downtown. He
reviewed each of the programs: Fagade Renovation Grant, New Business Code Assistance, Building
Permit Refund, and Impact Fees Assistance. The Council would set the criteria to be specific. This would
move the city forward to be more competitive with other areas. Council Member Thompson suggested
branding the City and suggested updating the City website, entranceways, events, and logo.
Council discussed community events. Council directed staff to summarize the details of the discussion
and return to Council to tailor the criteria for the community.
Other
Council Member Goodgame inquired about the Blue Earth Economic Development plan. City Manager
Saunders noted Blue Earth did not attend the last meeting with Lake County.
Council asked staff to contact the Operations Managers of Blue Earth.
