08-27-1997 Meeting PARK & RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING August 27, 199f A meeting of the Parks & Recreation Board for the City of Clermont was held Wednesday, August 27, 1997 in the Community Room at the Police Department. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by City Manager Wayne Saunders with the following members in attendance: Jack Gaines, Walter Hundley, Basha Slazer. City Manager Saunders introduced Basha Slazer and Walter Hundley as new members to the Board and briefly explained to the audience the purpose of the Park and Recreation Committee. Summer Recreation Program Jack Gaines reviewed the Summer Recreation program stating that he felt it was another successful year. City Manager Saunders asked for any suggestions for any improvements or changes to the program for next year. Mr. Gaines stated he would prefer to schedule that on a future agenda so that Board Members could have time to come up with ideas. Proposed Hancock Road Recreation Area City Manager Saunders announced that this meeting was also advertised as a public workshop introducing the proposed Hancock Road Recreation Area and asking for citizen input. Mr. Harry Schwab asked that the soccer club be allowed to provide input regarding the design and specifications for the soccer fields to insure that they were regulation size. City Manager Saunders indicated that we would seek their input as well as the Little League's input regarding field sizes and try to meet all their needs and requests. Mr. Hundley requested information regarding the total cost of Phase 1 of the project. City Manager Saunders stated the City is requesting a $100,000 grant from the Department of Environmental Protection under their Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program. An additional $100,000 would be needed and could be from a variety of sources which could be from recreation impact fees or grants from other organizations. An additional comment from the audience was for the provision of an additional basketball facility. City Manager Saunders indicated that one basketball court was proposed in Phase I and the area was large enough to accommodate additional courts in the future.
