04-01-1998 Minutes LINCOLN PARK TASK FORCE
Meeting
April 1, 1998
The meeting was called to order by President Willie Montgomery. Dea.
Jim Brown led us in prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Rena
Clark. The minutes were read and approved.
Park Update
Wayne Saunders, City Manager, stated that the park will cost
approximately $200,000 to complete. The South Lake Foundation has
contributed $45,740. The city plans to match up to $50,000 with the county.
The Lake County School Board is in the process of drawing up the lease
agreement at$1.00 per year.
Lightning
Ray Gilley, Florida Power, stated that the new lights (400 watts) and
vandal proof covers have been ordered. Several lights are on now, but dim. The
wattage of these lights will be checked and if they are not 400 watts, they will
be upgraded. Mr. Saunders will speak to the City Council about installing a
light at E. Desoto behind the apartments (Doc Jones Alley). Since it takes a
long time for the vandal proof covers to come in, any lights that are out will be
replaced. If they are broken when the covers come in they will be replaced
again.
Loitering
Several ideas were discussed on how to get the kids off the corners. It
r", was decided to place the subject of establishing a curfew on the next agenda.
Dea. Edward Wright suggested sending a special invitation to all the pastors to
attend the next meeting. Stacy Daniels, First Assembly of Christ, stated that
her pastor is very interested in helping to save the children. A letter of
invitation will be sent to each pastor, along with an announcement for the
church. Each task force member was asked to emphasize the importance of
attending the meetings at their individual churches. Fliers will be printed up to
be distributed throughout the neighborhood. Mr. Saunders agreed to have
these printed. Ms. Daniels will speak to her pastor about helping to distribute
fliers. Mrs. Victoria Magee will also help with getting the fliers distributed.
Abandoned Vehicles
If the vehicles are inoperable, they can be tagged and removed after 72
hours. The vehicles in Doc Jones Alley (E. Desoto St.) were discussed. Mr.
Saunders will follow up on this.
Neighborhood Watch
Since only a few people were in attendance, the neighborhood watch
program will be placed on the next agenda.
The next meeting will be May 6th. The meeting was adjourned.
