Whereas, the library had its first organizational meeting on March 23, 1906 and on
May 19, 1906 the home of Mrs. Payson Pierce on Montrose Street was opened for use
as a library on Saturday afternoons; and
Whereas, in 1910 the library books were moved to the Isaiah Benson home and in
1911 the name of the organization became the Clermont Library Club; and
Whereas, the Clermont Library Club decided to build a permanent home for the
library at their May 23, 1914 meeting; and
Whereas, the library formally opened on November 3, 1914; and
'Whereas, in 1938 the name officially changed to Cooper Memorial Library; and
'Whereas, on November 8, 2014 the Cooper Memorial Library will celebrate their
100th anniversary;
Now, Therefore, Be it ResoCved that the City of Clermont wishes the
library continued success in serving the South Lake Community.
In "Witness Whereof, I, Harold S. Turville, Jr., Mayor of the City of Clermont
in the State of Florida, have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of
Clermont to be affixed this 28th day of October in the year two thousand fourteen.
