WHEREAS, each year, Florida's vital underground utility infrastructure is jeopardized by
unintentional damage by those who fail to call 811 to have underground lines located prior to
digging; and
WHEREAS, undesired consequences such as utility service interruption, damage to the
environment, personal injury and even death are the potential results of failing to locate
underground lines before digging; and
WHEREAS, Sunshine 811 and its 943 members promote the national call-before-you-dig
number, 811, in an effort to prevent these damages; and
W3-(ERE.4S, designated by the Federal Communications Commission in 2005, 811
provides excavators and homeowners a simple, toll-free number to call and request utility line
locations at the intended dig site; and
WHEREAS, through education on safe digging practices, excavators and homeowners
can save time and money and prevent serious injury to themselves and others by calling 811
before beginning any digging project, waiting two full business days for locate marks, verifying
the utility responses, protecting the marks so they remain visible throughout the project, and
finally, digging with care around the marks; and
WHEREAS,all parties agree that safe digging is a shared responsibility;
NOW, T'3-CEREJ'ORE, I, Gail L. Ash, Mayor of the City of Clermont, do hereby extend
greetings and best wishes to all observing April 2015 as
SAFE DIGGING MONTH
