COUNCIL WORKSHOP
January 13, 2015
The Clermont City Council met in a workshop on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in the Council Chambers at
City Hall.Mayor Pro-Tem Goodgame called the workshop to order at 6:15pm with the following Council
Members present: Travis,Mullins, and Bates. Other City officials present were. City Manager Gray, City
Attorney Mantzaris, and Deputy City Clerk Noak.
Take Home Vehicles Presentation
City Manager Gray announced Mayor Ash was not present due to illness.
Police Chief Broadway and Officer Kevitt provided information on the current status of patrol cars.
Currently more than two officers use the same vehicle on different work shifts. Studies have shown that
the average non-productive hours to check-out, load, and unload pooled vehicles amounts to 13 days per
employee per year.
An assigned/take-home vehicle program was presented by Officer Kevitt. The advantages included lower
vehicle maintenance costs, increased sense of security in neighborhoods where police officers reside,
quicker off-duty officer response times,and improved morale.
Officer Kevitt presented a Government Lease program option to purchase 18 vehicles with associated
equipment for $710,000. Payments can be structured monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually and
do not have mileage restrictions. Three vehicles can be leased for the cost of purchasing one vehicle and
the end-of-lease buy-out is one dollar An ABC news video promoting Groveland Police Department's
vehicle lease program was shown
Police Chief Broadway requested the program be brought before the City Council in 30 days.
Council Member Mullins requested additional financial details be provided at the meeting
Council Member Goodgame commented the City should deal with the local Ford dealership
Ginger Martin inquired how many officers lived withm the take-home policy area. Officer Kevitt replied
there were 40 officers withm the policy area
