W9-1EREAS,Aurelia Cole was a lifelong resident of Clermont; and
WHEREAS, she was a leader since her high school days at Clermont's Lincoln Park High
School; and
WHEREAS, she was a top academic student, president of several clubs, and a Student
Council Member; and
"bV3{EREAS, Ms. Cole graduated from Tuskegee University and returned to teach in Lake
County and was named Clermont's Teacher of the Year; and
W3(EREAS, she became Dean of Students at Clermont High School, Assistant Principal at
Mount Dora High School, Gray Middle School and Clermont Middle School; and
WHEREAS, she made history as the Principal at East Ridge High School, becoming the first
African-American high school Principal in integrated Lake County schools; and
WHEREAS, she served as an Assistant Superintendent of Administration and safety until
her retirement in 2014; and
WHEREAS, she was a co-founder of the South Lake Historical Society and was an active
member of the Clermont Kiwanis Club; and
WHEREAS, she served in many roles at New Jacob's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church,
including Christian education and the McKinney Gospel Choir named after her father; and

WHEREAS, the Lake County Commission appointed her to a committee to study children's
needs; and
1'V3{ERE..IS,she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and role model for all.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE 17PROCLAINED that the City of Clermont expresses its
gratitude to Aurelia Cole's family for her service and many contributions to the Clermont community
and for being a true Clermont Champion.
