Whereas, the Office of the Municipal Clerk, a time honored and vital part of local
government exists throughout the world, is the oldest among public servants; and
Whereas, the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, a professional non-profit
association, announces its 50th Anniversary of Municipal Clerks Week; and
Whereas, in 1984 and in 1994, Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, respectively,
signed a Proclamation officially declaring Municipal Clerks Week the first full week of May and
recognizing the essential role Municipal Clerks play in local government; and
Whereas, the Office of the Municipal Clerk provides the professional link between the
citizens, the local governing bodies and agencies of government at other levels; and
Whereas, municipal clerks have pledged to be ever mindful of their neutrality and
impartiality, rendering equal service to all; and
Whereas, the municipal clerks' duties include, but are not limited to, serving as the
council's foundation, preparing agendas, taking minutes, maintaining ordinance and resolution
files, keeping the municipality's historical records, processing permits and serving as the
clearinghouse for information about the local government;
Whereas, municipal clerks continually strive to improve the administration of the affairs of
the Office of the Municipal Clerk and to keep up with the constantly changing elements of
government through participation in education programs, seminars, workshops and the annual
meetings of their state, provincial, county and international professional organizations; and
Whereas, it is most appropriate that we recognize the accomplishments of the Office of the
Municipal Clerk.
.NOW, Therefore, I, Gail L. Ash, Mayor of the City of Clermont in the State of Florida,
do hereby proclaim the week of May 5 through May 11, 2019 as
Municipal Clerks Week
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Clermont to be affixed this 9th day of May in the year two thousand nineteen.
