WHEREAS, Highway 50 traverses the City of Clermont, Florida,
WHEREAS, said Highway 50 is a heavily traveled main East
and West artery for the State of Florida, and
WHEREAS, it is necessary for many school children to pass
across Highway 50 twice daily going to and from the public schools of
Clermont, Florida, and
WHEREAS, the City in cooperation with its Police Department
and the County Board of Education have designated Bloxam Avenue and
East Avenue as the regular school crossing zones, and
WHEREAS, these two crossings, though the best available, are
extremely dangerous due to the high speed of traffic on Highway 50
and the contour and construction of Highway 50, and
WHEREAS, it has been deemed in the best interests of the
welfare and safety of the said City of Clermont, Florida, that a
more adequate means of warning be erected on Highway 50 to alert the
passing motorists of the presence of a school crossing,
THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of
Clermont, Florida, that the Lake County School District in cooperation
with the Florida Department of Transportation immediately proceed
to have erected on said Highway 50 at the two heretofore designated
locations, adequate flashing lights which will warn the passing
motorists of the approach to said school zone.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
furnished the Lake County District School Board and to the Department
of Transportation.
