Mayor Smith announced the purpose of the meeting was to consider a Resolution
endorsing the acquisition of property located on Lake Louisa by the State of Florida
for a park.
Councilman Smoak offered and moved the adoption of A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT, LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING AND APPROVING ACQUISITION
BY THE STATE OF FLORIDA OF THAT CERTAIN TRACT OF LAND SOUTH OF LAKE LOUISA, LAKE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO BE USED AS A STATE PARK and the motion was seconded by
Councilman Schroedel. The RESOLUTION was read in full by Mayor Smith. Representative
Langley asked permission to comment on the proposed Resolution wherein he advised
that he was in accord with the State acquiring this property, but was opposed to
having it developed into a State Park as this would mean excessive motorized
boat traffic on our Chain-o-Lakes and subsequent pollution of the waterways
which would not help this area environmentally, but neither did he feel it would
help the area economically. Mr. Langley further commented that he endorsed the
proposed Resolution, but would like to see Council condition it such as prohibiting
motorized boats on the waterways.
Upon roll call vote on passage of the RESOLUTION, the result was: Ayes: Smoak,
Schroedel and Smith. Total Ayes: Three. Nayes: None. Absent Beals and Byrd.
The RESOLUTION was adopted, the Number 222 assigned to it and copies forwarded
to the Honorable Governor Askew and members of his cabinet.
The meeting was adjourned by Mayor Smith.
