03-07-1972 Supporting DocumentsMINUTES N9 798 SPECIAL MEETING A Special Meeting of the City Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday, March 7, 1972. The meeting was called to order at 8:00 P.M. by Mayor Don E. Smith with the following council members present: Councilwoman Watson and Councilmen Smoak, Beals and Schroedel. City officials present were City Manager Hopkins, City Attorney Langley, Director of Community Services Smythe, Building Official Nagel, Chief of Police Tyndal and Deputy Clerk Dollar. Others present were Mesdames Thomas and Allbright, Mr. and Mrs. Misener, Mr. and Mrs. H. Horton and Messrs. Herman Potash, J. Boyd, J. M. VanderMeer, S. Bratton, H. Lovelady, 0. Seaver, H. Czech, L. Baird, Tom Day, Bill Lawson and E. Coppage. The invocation was given by Councilman Beals followed by the Pledge of Allegiance repeated in unison by those present. The minutes of the meeting held on February 22, 1972 were approved as written. The Mayor announced that the Special Meeting was called to hold a Public Hearing to consider the request of Mr. Herman Potash for rezoning of Blocks 5 and 8, Woodlawn Subdivision from R2 to R3 in order to build townhouses in that location. There were no objections from the floor. Motion was made by Councilman Beals, seconded by Councilman Smoak and unanimously carried that the request of Mr. Herman Potash for rezoning of Blocks 5 and 8, Woodlawn Subdivision from R2 to R3 for construction of townhouses be granted and that the City Attorney be directed to prepare the necessary Ordinance for change in zoning. A motion was made by Councilman Beals, seconded by Councilwoman Watson, and unanimously carried, that the Council go on record as opposing Article 5, Judicial Reform, abolishing municipal courts, to be voted upon in the March 14th election, and that the City Attorney be directed to prepare the necessary Resolution. Councilman Beals offered and moved the adoption of a RESOLUTION to be presented to the Legislative delegation wherein Council opposes Article 5, Judicial Reform, on the March 14, 1972 ballot, and the Resolution was read in full by City Attorney Langley. The motion was seconded by Councilwoman Watson and unanimously carried. So the Resolution was adopted and the Number 191 assigned to it. The meeting was adjourned by Mayor Smith. Don E. The purpose of the meeting is to hold a Public Hearing to consider request of Herman Potash for the re -zoning of Blocks 5 and 8 in'.:Woodlawn Subdivision from the present R2 Zoning to an R3 Zone in order to construct townhouses in that location. The Planning and Zoning Commission shall be meeting on this same date beginning at 7:30 P.M. to consider this matter also. Mr. Potash has posted the necessary publication fee and the Notice shall appear in the Febroary 24th and March 2nd editions of the local Press.
