03-17-1998 Workshop Meeting CITY OF CLERMONT MINUTES COUNCIL WORKSHOP MEETING March 17, 1998 A Workshop Meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held Tuesday, March 17, 1998 at the Police Department Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pool at 6:00 p.m. with the following Council Members in attendance: Council Member Cole, Council Member Norquist, Council Member Wolfe, and Council Member Brown. Also present was City Manager Saunders and Plan~ing Director Harker. National Triathlon June 18-21 Mayor Pool introduced Fred Sommer, President of CFT Sommer Sports who introduced Jeff Duke of the Orlando Regional Health System and the National Training Center. Mr. Duke explained that the upcoming triathlon to be held in June which will be a national trial event. Also present at the meeting was John Moore who is director of Orlando Regional Sports and Health and Tom Ziebart of Orlando Regional Sports Information Management. Mr. Ziebart provided each Council Member which a handout outlining the June event. Considerable discussion ensued concerning adequate notice to residents, signage, and adequate dumpsters. The parking fee of $250 for the event was discussed and will still be in effect. Mr. Ziebart requested that the boat ramp be closed for the event. After discussion, it was the consensus that it only be closed on Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Ziebart also requested that $1,000 be considered to be contributed for police support to the event. Council Members directed staff to place this on a future agenda. Polk County/Lake Lowery Water Diversion City Manager Saunders discussed with the Council the Lake Lowery water diversion issue that is before the St. Johns Water Authority. Council directed City Manager CITY OF CLERMONT MINUTES COUNCIL WORKSHOP MEETING March 17, 1998 Page 2 Saunders to attend the meeting at the St. Johns Water Management District and also solicit support from other municipalities to oppose the Lake Lowery draw-down. Property Sale on Mohawk Road The potential sale of the property owned by the City directly south of OHM Materials was discussed. This piece of property was initially purchased by the City for a sewer project that is no longer needed. City Manager Saunders stated that the property should be advertised for bid. He reviewed the appraisal that had been received for the property. It was the consensus that the minimum bid should be the full appraised value and that the City should send letters to the adjacent property owners to be sure that they are aware that the property is for sale. Mohawk Road Property City Manager Saunders explained that the County recently approved an impact fee project to connect the property owned by the City southeast of the 90 degree turn in Mohawk Road to the recently completed section of East Jacks Lake Road. The City owns a parcel that has been identified as an area to be used as a storm water retention for this project. There was no objection byt he Council to proceed. Code Recodification The recodification of the code was discussed, specifically making reference to the revised trailer and animal ordinances as well as the deletion of the City Manager residency requirement. City Manager Saunders stated that unless there were other changes requested by the Council, he would notify the Municipal Code Corporation to proceed with the recodification as submitted. There were no objections to any of the proposed changes. City Manager Saunders explained that this was a temporary measure not only to protect the streets, but the sewer lift station located at the north edge of the property.
