02-18-1998 Workshop Meeting CITY OF CLERMONT MINUTES COUNCIL WORKSHOP MEETING FEBRUARY 18, 1998 A Workshop Meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held Wednesday, February 18, 1998 at the Police Department Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pool at 6:00 p.m. with the following Council Members in attendance: Council Member Cole, Council Member Norquist, Council Member Wolfe, and Council Member Brown. Also present was City Manager Saunders and Planning Director Harker. Walmart Proposed Plans Mayor Pool stated that the main purpose of the meeting was to review the proposed plans for Walmart to be located south of the Racetrac gas station. Representatives of Walmart presented their plans and stated that there would be certain variances needed which included the number of parking spaces, some 9' spaces, location of storage of trailers, slopes that would exceed our maximum degree, and a lesser number of trees for replacement for the ones to be removed. He also explained that the request would include a realignment of Grand Highway that would move the intersection with Hook Street to the east. There was considerable discussion regarding the traffic impact of surrounding streets. Representatives stated that an initial traffic study has been done, however, City staff and DOT and Lake County are requesting a more intensive study. Council Member Wolfe questioned the representatives regarding the number of jobs, types of jobs, and benefits and stated that he felt that they were trying to place too much on the site. Council Member Norquist also stated he was very concerned about the traffic associated with the project. City Manager Saunders stated that the traffic situation is the staff's major concern due to the impact of several streets and intersections. Recodification The City's recodification of the charter and code was discussed. Each Council Member was provided with a copy of the changes to be included.
