09-28-2000 Workshop Meeting CITY OF CLERMONT MINUTES COUNCIL WORKSHOP MEETING SEPTEMBER 28, 2000 Page 1 A Workshop Meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held Thursday, September 28, 2000, at the Police Department. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Mayor Turville. Council Members present were Biddle MacLauchlin, Mullins and Lamb; also present was City Manager Saunders. Mayor Turville welcomed those present. The first item to be discussed was the Swing for Kids Event that is being planned by the Elks Lodge. Mr. Chris Giachetti was present as representative for the Elks Club and gave an explanation of the project to the Council. After discussion it was the consensus of the Council to work with the Elks Club in providing a date for this event. Next to be discussed was the Cooper Memorial Library. Vicky Cook, the incoming Chairman of the Library Board provided an introduction regarding the concerns of the Library with regards to the countywide Library system. She presented each Council Member with a handout that was an explanation of the Library Board's position. An overhead presentation was made regarding some of the statistics of growth and a comparison of remaining with the countywide system or becoming a n~unicipal library. It was stated that the Library Board would like to get out of the countywide system and become strictly a municipal library. Board representatives stated that an additional $100,000.00 of funding would be required from the city and that the services of the library would have to be cut back with regard to the hours and the staff in order to meet the new budget if they get out of the countywide system. It was explained that the interlocal agreement with the countywide system expires October 1,2001 and that the library must notify the county by July 1, 2001 regarding its intentions. City Council stated that they would need further review of the information and that future meetings would be scheduled. Mayor Turville requested that the City Manager review the projections and figures that were presented and report back to the City Council. Library representatives left the meeting at approximately 7:40 p.m. CITY OF CLERMONT MINUTES COUNCIL WORKSHOP MEETING SEPTEMBER 28, 2000 Page 2 Mr. Bob Wade was present and discussed with the City Council the old Clervue Drive-in sign located on Highway 50 and his proposed uses for the sign. After considerable discussion regarding the potential uses of the sign Mr. Wade stated that he would present a diagram of what he understands to be the consensus of the Council for the use prior to the hearing for the variance. Next, City Manager Saunders discussed with the City Council a proposal to increase the opening and closing fee now paid to Mr. Joe Jenusiak from $5.00 to $15.00. It was the consensus of the Council that this would be appropriate. Being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Attf,~ Je: i~e, Mayor Pro Tem
