A Workshop Meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held Thursday, December
7, 2000, at the Police Department. Mayor Turville called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
Council Members Rennick, MacLauchlin, Biddle and Mullins were present, also present were
City Manager Saunders, Planning Director Barry Brown and City Planner Barbara Hollerand.
Mayor Turville welcomed those present.
Mayor Turville stated the first item on the agenda was discussion of the use of the old South
Lake Hospital. Mr. Ron McFarland, representing the South Lake County Community
Foundation, presented the Council with a consensual plan for the use of the hospital. The plan
included the purchase of the property by the Methodist Church stating that the property would be
utilized for 5 to 7 years by various service agencies with the South Lake Foundation and the
hospital working together with regards to the management of the facility. Rose Biddle, Director
of the Main Street Program requested that the proposal be presented to the Community
Redevelopment Agency prior to City Council taking any action on it.
The next item to be discussed was the proposed shopping center for the northeast comer of
Highway 50 and Hancock Road. Mr. Scott Gentry, engineer for Maury Carter & Associates,
reviewed the Conditional Use Permit that was previously granted and then reviewed the proposed
changes including the change in the building location and the change in the proposed grading
plan. Mr. Turville stated that he would like to see additional cross sections and the traffic study
presented prior the public hearing before the City Council.

Planning Director Brown and Planner Barbara Hollerand then presented to the City Council the
proposed comprehensive plan amendments that will be presented to the Planning & Zoning
Commission and the City Council in January of 2001. Ms. Hollerand provided an overview of
the procedure necessary for the amendments and the background of the process. Ms. Hollerand
and Mr. Brown then reviewed with the Council each of the proposed amendments.
City Manager Saunders then discussed with Council potential dates for the annual City Council
Retreat to be held in January.
