01-07-1999 Workshop Meeting CITY OF CLERMONT MINUTES COUNCIL WORKSHOP MEETING January 7, 1999 A Workshop Meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held Monday, January 7, 1999, at the Police Department The meeting was called to order by Mayor Harold Turville, Jr. at 6:00 p.m. with the following Council Members in attendance: Council Member Biddle, Council Member Wolfe, Council Member Brown and Council Member Lamb. Also present was City Manager Wayne Saunders, and Principal Planner, Barry Brown. Mayor Turville introduced Mr. Bing Hacker with Lennar Homes. Mr. Hacker discussed with the Council the need for a temporary trailer on their site in order to house some of their personnel during their expansion. City Manager Saunders explained that this would be presented to the Council at a future date. Mr. Hacker left the meeting at approximately 6:15 p.m. Mayor Turville then introduced Mr. Willie Montgomery, the Clermont Postmaster. Mr. Montgomery introduced Mr. Mike Malloy, who is also with the Post Office. Mr. Malloy explained how the Post Office has outgrown the existing location and they are requesting the City to support them in their desire to secure a new site for a new full service Post Office. After discussion, it was consensus to place this on a Council Agenda for a formal vote. Mr. Montgomery and Mr. Malloy left the meeting at approximately 6:30 p.m. City Planner, Barry Brown then introduced Mr. Bob Reese who explained to the Council that they are planning a Sonny's Restaurant on the South side of Highway 50 and that a small scale Comprehensive Plan amendment is needed in order to allow this type of development on the property. After discussion, it was consensus that a Developer's Agreement be drafted regarding the mixed use and the specific requests by Mr. Reese. The City Council then reviewed the list of names that have been submitted for possible appointments to City Boards and Commissions. The Council also discussed an appointment that needs to be made to fill the vacated CRA Board position that was formerly held by Mr. Biddle. CITY OF CLERMONT MINUTES COUNCIL WORKSHOP MEETING January 7, 1999 Page 2 Council Member Lamb then expressed her opinion that the City Council should go in a new direction with regards to a City Attorney and that the greatest need for the Council at this time was for someone with extensive land use background. It was consensus that the City should advertise for attorneys that may be interested in serving the City Council. Next, the City Council discussed the status of the City's Consulting Engineer, Springstead and Associates. After considerable discussion there was consensus that no new projects would be assigned to Springstead and Associates without Council approval; however, they should complete any projects that they are currently involved in. The Council next discussed the possibility of adding lights for the existing soccer field at Palatlakaha Park.
