Wkereas, the Citizens of Clermont are firmly committed to quality afterschool
programs and opportunities; and
Whereas, the Florida Afterschool Network has provided significant leadership
throughout the pandemic to keep kids engaged in learning and meet the
needs of families in our community, especially those who need extra
support to catch up and accelerate their learning; and
'Whereas, Lights On Afterschool, the national celebration of afterschool programs held
this year on October 28, 2021, promotes the importance of quality
afterschool programs in the lives of children, families and communities; and
^Whereas, approximately 1.5 million children and youth in Florida are waiting right
now for a spot in an afterschool program, many of whom have no place to
go after school; and
Whereas, many afterschool programs across the state are facing funding and staffing
shortfalls so severe that they are being forced to close their doors and turn
off their lights; and
Whereas, the City of Clermont is committed to investing in the health and safety of
all young people by providing expanded learning opportunities that will
help close the achievement gap and prepare young people to compete in the
global economy.
WOW, Therefore, I, Tim Murry, Mayor of the City of Clermont in the State of Florida,
do hereby proclaim the Day of October 28, Two Thousand and Twenty One as:

City of Clermont to be affixed this 12' Day of October in the year Two Thousand and
