08-26-1975 Regular Meeting~~ ~-- REPORT OF POLICE AND FIRE STATION IMPROVEMENT SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON AUGUST 26, 1975 Present were: Chairman Tom K. Dougherty, Member Jane Wilkins; Chief of Police Prentice Tyndal; and Director of Community Services Bob Smythe. Prior to this meeting Ben Cunningham and a retired architect met with Chief Tyndal to discuss building expansion alternatives. This discussion resulted in the architect drawing a plan of the existing facilities and adding to that the proposed expansion. Chief Tyndal informed the subcommittee that the proposed additional floor space would definitely meet the department's requirements over the next two years and very possibly their requirement for the next five to seven years. An alternative to the sketched proposal was the construction of a second floor within the fire department. This alternative was eliminated primarily because the additional space needed is for offices and a record room, all of which need to be centrally located. Also, it was estimated that the cost of this alternative would not be that much less, if at all, than the sketched proposal. The present floor plan of the department was studied in the relation to the proposal and it was concluded that the proposal could be integrated readily into the present floor plan with the following modifications: 1. The entrance door to the addition would be behind the existing reception counter. 2. The south room would be expanded into the proposed hall and would be similar to the north room. 3. The two extreme rooms would be used for offices and the center area would be used for records. 4. The existing northeast corner office would be used as a squad room. 5. The present counter would be moved to the south a short distance and be reduced in length and width. 6. The counter area would be partitioned to the ceiling with glass and wood. 7. Some carpentry would be needed to provide a writing surface in the squad room and shelves in several other locations. It was decided that: 1. The subcommittee would request the city manager to get an approximate estimate for the proposed expansion. 2. Jane Wilkins is to make a study of the equipment and furniture floor plan in the dispatch area in order to determine the entrance door location for the proposed addition. The next scheduled meeting of the subcommittee is at 3:00 p.m. on September 16, 1975. Respectfully Submitted, ~n / `-'t ~~ TOM K. DOUGHERT , Chairman
