Chairman Meginley, Mesdames Cook and Ray, City Manager Gordon Tiffany, and the Messrs.
Sullivan and Seaver were present.
This committee meeting was called to have the draft of the"Landscape and Planting
Guide"reviewed.
After being introduced by City Manager Tiffany, Mr. Joe Knight proceeded with the
presentation of the plan. It was decided the committee would go over the draft page-
by-page.
Recommendations for the cover - change the title, in its place "Greenscape" or
"Landscape and Planting Guide" were suggested.
General suggestions on the draft:
1. A provision be included in the guide to plant the street trees
accordingly so that the different life terms of the trees are
interspersed; and,
2. Provision for the tree maintenance program to include demossii~g
and spraying.
Other major proposed changes in the guide were as follows:
1. Site Analysis.
a. A statement giving further reasons for loss of trees in Clermont
and stressing need for good sound maintenance.
b. Statement expounding upon the ,need to enhance the natural character
istics of the City by planting indigenous trees.
c. Outline areas of existing trees, in the survey, which have specific
problems and areas which are in good shape.
2. Better definition of difference between highland vegetation and lowland
vegetation.
3. Planting guidelines diagram should be expanded to three pages with
explanations.
4. A category to include trees and shrubs that should be restricted to
street planting or residential use only.
5. Life expectancy of trees added to the remarks in tree tables.
6. Master Planting Plan will be a fold-out to increase size.
1. Parking lot layout should have cross-sectional view beside the overhead
view to show planting restrictions of corners and driveways.
8. Short-range goals in the implementation were rearranged as follows:
a. Entrance planting and Signs;
b. State Road 50
c. U.S. 27
d. Public Use
e. Downtown
There was brief discussion of the possibility of Federal Aid to assist in the
implementation of the Plan.
