06-22-1978 Regular MeetingMEETING NOTES OF THE COMMUNITY APPEARANCE STANDARDS COMMITTEE
June 22, 1978
Present was Chairman Meginley, City Manager Tiffany, Mrs, Caok, and Messrs.
Jones and Blackburn. The meeting began at 3:15 P.M.
Landscape plan as revised was introduced by creator Joe Knight as the final
draft. He stated that the graphics of the plan would need some refining before
the plan was ready to be presented.
Mr. Tiffany suggested the committee decide on the next step for proceeding
with plan presentation, implementation, and revision work on the present land-
scape ordinance.
In reviewing the plan, there was some discussion of placing more control
on visibility requirements by requiring the level of unobstructed view be
measured from the existing curb and sidewalk.
A suggestion of having in the plan places where soil can be tested was
made.
Another suggestion was to place in the plan a typical diagram showing the
street, right of way, sidewalk, and where trees could be placed. Result of
discussion that followed was a realization that streets would have to be
planned separately to include future possibilities of expansion.
After review by the P&Z Board, the plan will go to the City Council for
adoption. If adopted, "Greenscape" will serve as the basis for implementation
of city landscaping. The plan will also be advertised and circulated through
the city for private use. This will be achieved hopefully with the help of
the Garden Club.
Vote was taken for sending the plan to the next P&Z meeting. Ayes were
unanimous.
Before the meeting was adjourned, a last suggestion was made to supplement
the plan with a bibliography of books and references of plant standards.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 P.M.
