WORKSHOP MEETING
May 16, 1985
A Workshop Meeting Meeting of the Clermont City Council was held
on Thursday, May 16, 1985 in the City Hall Conference Room. The
meeting was called to order by Mayor Pool at 7:00 p.m. with the
following Council Members in attendance: Mayor Pro Tem Turville,
Council Member Henry, Council Member Cole and Council Member Huff.
Other City Officials present were City Engineer John Springstead
and Deputy City Clerk Brandt.
The purpose of this Workshsop was to continue the selection process
for the new City Manager. The five semi-finalists' resumes chosen
during the May 9, 1985 Workshop were reviewed by John Springstead
while other matters were discussed.
Council Member Henry expressed her concern regarding a church
using Jenkins Auditorium on an ongoing basis when other churches
had been denied this request in the past. After some discussion
concerning the problems involved with such a use, it was the con-
sensus of Council to contact City Attorney Baird concerning the
legal ramifications of allowing the Auditorium to be used on a
continuing basis for church services.
It was also discussed that the acoustics and sound system in the
auditorium needed improvements. A person sitting in the back of
the room during a meeting or play cannot hear what is spoken on
the stage or immediately in front of the stage. Several solutions
to the problems were discussed, and it was the consensus of Council
that something must be done as it is the only public building in
the City where large groups of people can meet.
Mr. Springstead, who has had many years of experience reviewing
resumes, then offered his comments on the five chosen finalists.
Much discussion ensued concerning the applicants' qualifications.
The field was then narrowed to two candidates, Mr. Wayne Saunders
and Mr. J. Michael Moore.
Continuing discussion concerning these two gentlmen's qual~fications
resulted in a preference for Mr. Saunders. After some further dis-
cussion, it was the consensus of Council to recommend that Mr. Wayne
Saunders be offered the position of City Manager at a starting salary
of $31,500. The salary range as advertised was $30,000-$33,000.
The Council thanked Mr. Springstead for lending his expertise to the
selection process.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
