08-27-1992 Workshop Meeting CITYOF CLERMONT MINUTES WORKSHOP MEETING August 27, 1992 A Workshop Meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held Thursday, August 27, 1992 in the City Hall Conference Room. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pool at 7:00 p.m. with the following Council Members in attendance: Mayor Pro Tem Turville, Council Member Ivey, Council Member Norquist, and Council Member Cole. Also present were City Manager Saunders, representatives of Clermont Elementary School and Lake County School Board. CLERMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TRAFFIC PROBLEM Mayor Pool asked that each person present introduce themselves and then stated that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the traffic congestion that occurs in the vicinity of Clermont Elementary School in the afternoons when school lets out. He pointed out on a diagram the existing traffic patterns and where the congestion occurs. Mr. Buck Crews, a resident on East Avenue stated that his main problem is people lining up to pick up children and blocking his driveway. It was the consensus that driveways in the area should be striped and signs should be placed prohibiting the blocking of driveways. City Manager Saunders was directed to have a police officer at the site as often as possible in the afternoons to enforce traffic regulations. Several alternative traffic flow ideas were discussed by those present. The only other improvement to be tried at this time would be a center stripe placed on 2nd Street in an effort to keep cars in the right-hand lane which would allow traffic to flow along 2nd Street. It was also suggested that the Sheriff's Department be contacted to see if they could provide an officer to help patrol the area in the afternoons. City Manager Saunders stated that the striping and signs could probably be accomplished within the next week. The City will continue to monitor the situation and keep in touch with the school for other possible changes. Carmen Arnold, Principal of Clermont Elementary School stated that she would send a letter home with all students explaining the problem and stating that the City will be stepping up enforcement of traffic regulations in the area and ask for the parent's cooperation in solving the problem. Meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. Robert A. Pool, Mayor Attest:
