CITY OF CLERMONT
MINUTES
SPECIAL MEETING
A Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was
held in the office of the City Manager on Wednesday, December 5,
1979. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 A.M. by Mayor Claude
E. Smoak,Jr., with the following members present: Councilmen Cole,
Meginley, and Schroedel. Others present were: City Manager Forbes,
City Clerk Carroll, and Chief of Police Tyndal.
Mayor Smoak advised that the purpose of the meeting was to canvass
the ballot and check the Certificate of Result of the General Election
of the City of Clermont held on December 4, 1979.
Upon canvassing the ballot and checking the Certificate of Result,
motion was made by Councilman Schroedel, seconded by Councilman
Meginley and unanimously carried that it be RESOLVED that the Certi-
ficate of Result of the General Election of the City of Clermont,
Florida, held on Tuesday, December 4, 1979 be accepted, and that a
copy of the Result be received into these minutes and made a part
thereof, and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED in accordance with the result
of the General Election:
THAT, DENNIS K. THOMAS be, and is hereby declared, elected to the
office of Council Member in Group Four (IV) of the City of Clermont
for a two year term commencing on Thursday, December 27, 1979;
THAT, Inasmuch as none of the candidates for Council Member in Group
One (I) received a majority of the votes cast, it is necessary that
the two candidates receiving the greater number of votes, namely
H. JAMES MEGINLEY and GERALD L. SHEPARD, enter the Run-Off Election
of the City of Clermont to be held on Tuesday, December 18, 1979, and
that the candidate receiving the greater number of votes in said Run-
Off Election shall be declared elected to the office of Council Member
in Group One (I) for a one year term commencing on Thursday, December
27, 1979;
THAT, Inasmuch as none of the candidates for Council Member in Group
Two (II) received a majority of the votes cast, it is necessary that
the two candidates receiving the greater number of votes, namely
LESTER COLE and BOBBY J. DUNCAN, enter the Run-Off Election of the
City of Clermont to be held on Tuesday, December 18, 1979, and that
the candidate receiving the greater number of votes in said Run-Off
Election shall be declared elected to the office of Council Member
in Group Two (II) for a two year term commencing on Thursday, December
27,1979;
AND BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED and declared that upon qualification
of said officers elected, and to be elected as aforesaid, that they
shall assume the duties of such office to which they are elected and
hold the same and perform the duties prescribed by law.
The meeting was adjourned by Mayor Smoak at 9:15 A.M.
