Whereas, Black history is an integral part of American history. Black Americans have
played an undeniable role in building, strengthening and shaping every aspect of the United
States; and
Whereas, Black History Month is an annual celebration that recognizes the central role
of Black Americans in our nation's history, providing the opportunity for all Americans to
become more knowledgeable about Black heritage; and
Whereas, Black History Month was established in 1915, a half -century after the
Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery in the U.S., by historian, educator, author and
journalist Carter G. Woodson; and
Whereas, from the Revolutionary War through the abolitionist movement, to marches
from Selma to Montgomery and across America today, Black Americans have remained
devoted to the proposition that we are all created equal, even when their own rights were
denied; and
'Whereas, as a community, the month is an opportunity to recommit to continue the
work to ensure that all residents are treated equally and have equitable access to
opportunities that help them thrive, supporting our collective efforts to make Clermont an
inclusive, welcoming city for all.
WOW, Therefore, I, Tim Murry, Mayor of the City of Clermont in the State of Florida,
do hereby proclaim the month of February, Two Thousand and Twenty Five as:
Black History .Month
In 'Witness ^Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Clermont to be affixed this 25" Day of February in the year Two Thousand and
Twenty Five.
