Whereas, Captain Donnie Cochran, United States Navy (Retired), has demonstrated
exceptional dedication to his country, inspiring countless individuals
through his leadership, service, and achievements; and
Whereas, a 1976 graduate of Savannah State University, Captain Cochran began his
distinguished Navy career as a fighter pilot, serving on multiple aircraft
carriers and leading Fighter Squadron I I I to recognition as the top F-14
Squadron in the Pacific Fleet; and
Whereas, Captain Cochran made history as the first African American pilot selected
for the Blue Angels in 1985, later becoming the first African American
Commanding Officer and Flight Leader in 1994, flying over 2,200 hours in
more than 300 airshows for millions of spectators; and
Whereas, with over 6,000 flight hours, Captain Cochran served as a command pilot
in nine types of aircraft, completing 888 accident -free carrier landings and
later contributing to aviation as a flight training supervisor for UPS and a
manager at Coca-Cola; and
Whereas, Whereas, Captain Cochran's numerous honors include two Legion of Merit
Medals, the Navy Commendation Medal, and induction into the Georgia
Military Veteran Hall of Fame and Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame, among
other prestigious recognitions; and
Whereas, Captain Cochran's legacy continues to inspire excellence and leadership in
both military and civilian life.
Now, Therefore, I, Tim Murry, Mayor of the City of Clermont in the State of Florida,
do hereby proclaim the 1 Ith Day of March, Two Thousand and Twenty -Five as:
