SPECIAL MEETING
A Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont
was held in the Kiwanis Room of Jenkins Auditorium on Tuesday.
November 3. 1970. The Meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M.
by Mayor Don E. Sm1 th wi th tile follow1.ng named members present:
Councilmen Ray P. Cochran. Richard Oswalt.and Sam Bratton. Others
present were City Manager Johnson and City Clerk Carroll.
The Special Heeting had been duly called by Mayor Smith. each
Councilman notified in writing twenty-four hours in advance
and the local Press was also notified in writing.
Mayor Smith advised that he had called,this Special Meeting at
the request of City Manager Johnson and requested that Mr. Johnson
state his problem.
City Manager Johnson advised the Council that due to the wage scale
paid by the City. all sanitation workers had stated that they
would resign from their jobs on Wednesday. November 4. 1970 unless
their wages were increased. Mr. Johnson further stated that he had
met with the sanitation workers and arrived at an agreement subject
to the authorization of the City Council. He still further stated
that the wage scale which he was recommending would apply to a
minor ~egree to all labor as well as the sanitation department
employees and that the total increase would necessitate that
approximatelyl8500.00be made available for additional labor expenses
and that unbudgeted revenues in excess of such amount would be
available.
Motion was made by Councilman Bratton. seconded by Councilman Oswalt
and unanimously carried that the wage scale increases recommended
by City Manager Johnson be accepted and authorized as a maximum.
and that an amount not to exceed $8500.00 be made available from
unbudgeted revenues for labor expenses.
The Meeting was adjourned by 8:30 by
