12-08-1971 Special Meeting . . MINUTES NQ 777 SPECIAL MEETING A Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held in the office of the City Manager on Wednesday, December 8, 1971. The Meeting was called to order at 9:05 A.M. by Mayor Don E. Smith with the following members present: Councilwoman Watson and Councilmen VanderMeer and Beals. City Manager Hopkins, City Clerk Carroll and Chief of Police Tynda1 were also present. Mayor Smith stated the purpose of the meeting was to canvass the ballot of the General Election of the City of Clermont held on December 7, 1971; to authorize payment to the Election Board members for their services and to appoint an Election Board for the General Run-Off Election to be held on December 21, 1971. After checking the Certificate of Result by the Election Board as to the count registered by the voting machines and the absentee ballots received, motion was made by Councilwoman Watson, seconded by Councilman VanderMeer and carried that it be RESOLVED that the Certificate of Result of the General Election of the City of Clermont held December 7, 1971 be accepted and that a copy of the results be received into these minutes and made a part thereof and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED in accordance with the results of the election that inasmuch as none of the candidates for Council to Groups Two and Four received a majority of the votes cast, it is necessary that the two candidates receiving the greater number of votes in each group, namely, Rap P. Cochran and Claude E. Smoak, Jr. for Group Two; George J. Schroedel and Robert C. Shumaker for Group Four, enter the run-off election being held December 21, 1971 and that the candidate receiving the greater number of votes in each individual group shall be declared elected to the office of Councilman of the Group in which they are entered, City of Clermont, Lake County, Florida. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED and declared that upon qualification of said officers to be elected, as aforesaid, that they shall assume the duties of such office to which they are elected and hold the same and perform the duties prescribed by law. Motion was made by Couni1man VanderMeer, seconded by Councilwoman Watson and carried that each member of the Election Board and the Officer of the Day be paid $1.25 per hour for their services during the General Election held December 7, 1971. Motion was made by Councilwoman Watson, seconded by Councilman Beals and carried that the following named persons be appointed to serve as the Election Board for the Run-Off Election of the City of Clermont to be held on Tuesday, December 21, 1971: A. M. Johnson, Clerk Goldie B. Wilson Louise B. Ream Li 11 i an G. Cork Walter E. Leidner George O. Smith, Inspectors A. B. Broyles, Officer of the Day Mayor Smith called the following two Special Meetings: Special Meeting to be held on December 20, 1971 at 5:05 P.M. in the office of the City Manager to prepare the Ballot Box for the Run-Off Election to be held on December 21,1971; Special Meeting to be held on Wednesday, December 22,1971 at 9:00 A.M. in the office of the City Manager to canvass the Ballot of the Run-Off Election to be held on December 21, 1971.
