MINUTES Nt} 964 SPEC IAL MEETING A Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held in the office of the City Manager on Thursday, August 16, 1973. The meeting was called to order at 9:15 A. M. by Mayor Don E. Smith with the following members present: Councilman George Schroedel and Claude Smoak. Other officials present were: City Manager Hopkins and City Clerk Carroll. Others present were: Representative Richard H. Langley and members of the Sentinel/Star, the Daily Commercial and the local Press. Mayor Smith announced the purpose of the meeting was to consider a Resolution endorsing the acquisition of property located on Lake Louisa by the State of Florida for a park. Councilman Smoak offered and moved the adoption of A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT, AAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING AND APPROVING ACQUISITION BY THE STATE OF FLORIDA OF THAT CERTAIN TRACT OF LAND SOUTH OF LAKE LOUISA, LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO BE USED AS A STATE PARK and the motion was seconded by Councilman Schroedel. The RESOLUTION was read in full by Mayor Smith. Representative Langley asked permission to comment on the proposed Resolution wherein he advised that he was in accord with the State acquiring this property, but was opposed to having: it developed into a State Park as this would mean excessive motorized boat traffic on our Chain-o-Lakes and subsequent pollution of the waterways which would not help this area environmentally, but neither did he feel it would ~elp the area economically. Mr. Langley further commented that he endorsed the proposed Resolution, but would like to see Council condition it such as prohibiting motorized boats on the wateeways. Upon roll call vot~ on passage of the RESOLUTION, the result was: Ayes: Smoak, Schroedel and Smith. Total Ayes: Three. Nayes: None. Absent Beals and Byrd. The RESOLUTION was adopted, the Number 222 assigned to it and copies forwarded to the Honorable Governor Askew and members of his cabinet. The meeting was adjourned by Mayor Smith. ~ ,~11 ./ Don E.
