05-29-1975 Special Meeting e e e e MINUTES NQ 1152 SPECIAL MEETING A Special Meeting of the City Council was held in the office of the City Manager Thursday, May 29, 1975. The meeting was called to order at 4:50 P. M. by Mayor Claude E. Smoak, Jr. with the following members present: Councilmen Blackburn, Byrd and Oswalt. Others present were City Manager Hopkins, City Attorney Baird and Deputy Clerk Dollar. A representative of the Sentinel/Star was also present. Mayor Smoak announced that the purpose of this special meeting was to consider funding a summer swimming program for the school children inasmuch as state funds were no longer available to schools for this purpose and that City Manager Hopkins had been requested to compile some approximate costs and information for such a program. City Manager Hopkins advised that as yet he had no firm costs to submit; that he had discussed the program with the instructor of last year's school program and that the immediate prOblem was securing of qualified personnel with WSI certification to oversee the program; that he is waiting one some feed back on the availability of qualified personnel. Following discussion and consensus of council that the program was needed, motion was made by Councilman Blackburn, seconded by Councilman Oswalt and unanimously carried that the City of Clermont conduct and fund a summer swimming program, to begin no later than the second week in July, provided that competent instructors are available and that the City Manager be directed to work out the details for the program.
