ADJOURNED MEETING

An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the
City of Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk
on Tuesday - September 19, 1961. The meeting was called
to order at 7:30 P.M. by Council Chairman Clarence Bishop,
with all Council members present. Other officials present
were: Mayor BonJorn, Clerk JOhnson, Deputy Clerk Williams,
Sup.tl.... Sheldon and Bldg. Inspector Snyder. Others present
were: Mr. F. B. Innis and representatives of the Orlando
Sentinel and of the local Press.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on Tuesday -
September 5, 1961, were read and approved.
Sup't. Sheldon reported that the Lake County Health
Department had requested that the City build a shed in which
to house the dozier at the new city dump. Sup't. Sheldon re-
commended that a tin shed measuring approximately 12 x 20 be
constructed and that city labor be used to construct same.
Motion by Mr. Pool, seconded by Mr. Turville and carried, that
Sup't. Sheldon be authorized to proceed with construction of
same.
Mr. Pool, Chairman of the Parks Committee, reported that
the ladder at the end of the dock at the Jaycee Beach swimming
area was broken, and Sup't. Sheldon was instructed to repair
same. Mr. Pool further reported he had received a request from
Mr. John W. Richardson of the Jaycee Beach Restaurant ta keep
the restaurant open on bt~apd Saturday nights until 11: ~O P.M
Mr. Richardson' s request was granted.
Mr. Turville, Chairman of the Laws and AuEiiting Committee,
reported that City Attorney Morse had advised him that steps
to correct the zoning violation on Highway # 50 by Mrs. Alice
Lockmiller,was in process.
Clerk Johnson advised the Council t~at City Attorney Morse
was going to Tallahassee on Wednesday - September 20, 1961 for
the final proof reading of the Codification of City Ordinances,
and, that it was necessary that he take the City Ordinance Book
with him. Motion by Mr. Turville, seconded by Mr. Pool and
carried, that Attorney Morse be authorized to take the City
Ordinance Book with him.
Mr. Boyd, Chairman of the Water Committee, reported that
the engineers were working on the water works survey at l1he
present time. Mr. Boyd further reported that Sup't. Sheldon
had completed the patching of several streets in the Indian
Hills section and the sand sealing of Lake Avenue, from Osceola
to Minneola Avenue.
Mr. F. B. Innis spoke to the Council with regards that
the Home Owners Civic Improvement Association had voted at their
last meeting to recommend to the Council that the parking meters
be put back in service. Motion was made by Mr. Turville, se-
conded by Mr. Pool and unanimously carried, that the parking
meters be put back in service by Monday - September 25, 1961,
and that they be strictly enforced.
Chairman Bishop mnquired of the Building Committee if they
had any plans, specifications and a cost estimate for the pro-
posed Fire Station/Civil Defense Center. Sup't. Sheldon advised
that he had some info~ation and figures, and would meet with
the Bldg. Committee this week and present such plans at the
next meeting. Mr. Boyd reported that with additional fire
protection, as proposed, the City of Elermont would be put on
a different fire rating which would mean a savings to property
owners of concrete block houses of 10% and of frame houses as
much as 50% on insurance premiums.
Clerk Johnson reported, that the flood lights at the Jaycee
Beach were burned out and/or the time clock on same needed to
be checked. Mayor BonJorn advised that he would take care of
this matter.
Clerk Johnson reported that he had a request from Mr.
Art George for the City to put a sale price on Lots 1 - 11
of BloCk 31, City of Clermont, for clients of his to purchase
and construct a community fall-out shelter on. Clerk Johnson

was instructed to advise Mr. George, upon motion of Mr. Turville,
second by Mr. Pool and carried, that inasmuch as this property
was valuable to the City as a drainage for surplus water from
surrounding streets,and was therefore not for sale.
Clerk Johnson reported he had a request from the South
Lake Presbyterian Church to construct and place a church sign
of different shape and size then of those presently installed.
Motion by Mr. York, seconded by Mr. Turville and carried, that
Clerk Johnson advise South Lake Presbyterian Church that inasmuch
as all existing church signs were of uniform shape and size, that
it would be to the best interests that any new ones conform also,
and therefore their request was denied.
Clerk Johnson reported that there appeared to be a conflict
in the scheduled use of the City Ball Park located on East Avenue
Councilmen Turville and Pool were instructed to investigate and
correct this matter.
Mr. York stated that he had received a complaint of the
overgrown condition of weeds on private property ad~acent to
Johnson Drive. Mayor BonJorn, and Councilmen Pool and Turville
advised that they would investigate the matter.
Motion by Mr. ~lle, seconded by Mr. Boyd and carried,
that meeting adjourn.
