08-01-1961 Regular Meeting REGULAR MEETING ~ A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday, August 1, 1961. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Council Chairman Clarence Bishop with the following Councilmen present: York, Boyd, Turville and Bishop. Absent: Pool. Also Absent: Nayor BonJorn. Others present were Col. George VanNostrant, Jerry Egan, Harold ROberts, Frank Innis, a representative of Leesburg Glass and Mirror Company, representatives of several Truck & Equipment Companies interested in the opening of bids and representatives of the local and out-of-town press. The minutes of the adjourned meeting held on July 18, 1961 were read and approved as read. Col. VanNostrand advised the Council that it was the intention of the Home Owners Improvement association to publish a copy of the city budget for the present fiscal year; that such publicatmon would be made without comment, but that it was his opinion that some questions would be offered at the following meeting and that he would like for the Council to have one of their members present, or if preferred Clerk Johnson, in order that such questions might be answered. The Council requested that Clerk Johnson attend the meeting. A representative of the the Leesburg Glass & Mirror spoke to the Council regarding an apparent misunderstanding relative to the installation of windows being done by his firm. The Misunderstanding pertained to the necessary plastering needed after the installation of the windows. The Council stated that they would try to work out some satisfactory arrangements with all parties concerned. Clerk Johnson was authorized to have the necessary tile work done and to secure estimates of the plastering cost. Mr. Egan and Mr. Roberts, representing the Local Merchants ASSOCiation, requested that the City Council give serious consideration to the elimination of parking meters on the main street. Mr. Egan was requested to supply some additional information as to the benefits derived from free parking. Clerk Johnson was requested to open bids o~ a truck and Garbage Packer which were as follows: Hodges Equipment Company of Leesburg at $9,272.60 less $870.00 for trade-in and Sarasota Truck & Tractor, Inc. $9413.50 or $865350 with trade-in. Bids were also submitted by Rag Bowen Ford and an alternate bid from Hodges Equipment but neither met requested specificatfuons. Motion was made by Mr. Turville, seconded by Mr. York and carried the city accept the low bid (meeting the desired specifications) of $9,272.60, less $870.00 for trade-in, submitted by Hodges Equipment of Leesburg. Mr. Turville stated that he wished it thoroughly understood that his motion was based solely on price and specifications and that had other bids met the specifications that they would have had his serious consideration. . Clerk Johnson was requested to open bids on approximately 1800 tons of lime rock. Clerk Johnson advised the Council thatv he had been unable to obtain but one bid which was 1.10 per ton but that such price was ih line with prices paid in the past. Motion was made by Mr. Boyd, seconded by Mr. Turville and carried that the bid on lime rock of 1.10 per ton submitted by ~uality Lime Rock Co of Ocala be accepted. Police Chief Tyndal submitted his monthly report which was accepted and ordered filed. Building Inspector Snyder submitted his monthly report which was accepted a~d ordered filed. Clerk Johnson was authorized to enter into an agreement with :Hid-Florida Gas Co pertaining to their equipment at the J. C. Beach resturant provided that such agreement was approved by City attorney Norse.
