07-05-1961 Regular Meeting REGULAR MEETING , A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday - July 5, 1961. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Counci~ Chairman Clarence Bishop with the following mem- bers present: Turville, Pool, Boyd and York. Other officials present were: Mayor BonJorn, Clerk JOhnson, Deputy Clerk Williams, Sup't. Sheldon, Inspector Snyder and Chief of Police Tyndal. Others present w~re: Representative of the Traffic and Planning Division of the State Road Dep't., and Mr. F.B. Innis. The minutes of the adjourned meeting held Tuesday - June 20, 1961, were read and approved. The representative of the State Road Dep't. appeared before the Council to offer his services regarding any ques- tions the Council might have about the proposed traffic signal for the intersection of Highway # 50 and Fifth Street. Chief of Police Tyndal submitted his regular monthly police report, which was accepted and ordered filed. Inspector Snyder submitted a report on building for the month of June, which was accepted and ordered filed. Sup't. Sheldon reported that the present garbage pick- up service was not adequate with only one truck and suggested that the Council consider purchasing an additional truck when the budget for 1961-62 is made up. Mx. Boyd, Chairman of the Water Committee, reported he had not received any complaints on water pressure recently and therefore assumed that the city's water supply was ade- quate. Mr. Pool, Chairman of the Parks Committee, reported that the pumping in of 300' of white sand beach on the south-east side of East Lake, to be used as a colored bathing beach, had been completed. Mr. Boyd reported to the Council that the Clermont Buainess District sign located at the intersection of Hwy. 50 and 27 was not burning, and Chief Tyndal was instructed to in- vestigate same. He further reported that the brochure of Mid- Florida Public Service Company had been received, and a copy of same forwarded to B.J.VanIngen Company, fiscal agents. Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mrs. Alice Lockmiller wherein she requested that the Bldg. Inspector and Council inspect her building at 1101 Bowman Street to see that she was now conforming with the zoning in that area. Councilman Turville then reported to the Council that this inspection had been made and although a smaller portion of the building in question was being used for real estate offices than when a ~ ~ previous inspection was made, that the violation continued. Mr. Turville thereupon moved that City Attn'y. Morse be inst- ructed to notify Mrs. Lockmiller of the continuing violation and that he proceed with whatever steps are necessary to bring about a discontinuance of the violation. The motion was se- conded by Mr. York and carried. Motion was made by Mr. Turville, seconded by Mr. Boyd and carried, that Bobby Pool be appointed to membership on the Zoning Commission. Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mrs.Louise Cunningham wherein she commended the City for the excellent job of lot clearance throughout the city recently. Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. & Mrs. E.B.Collette wherein they urged the Council to enforce the present zoning (which is residential) law in the area along Highway 50 be- tween East Avenue and Anderson street. Clerk Johnson read a letter from the Commissioners of the City of Winter Garden expressing appreciation for the help extended them by our Fire Dep't. during a recent fire they had. Clerk Johnson read a letter from B.J.Vanlngen Company wherein they acknowledged receipt of Mid-Florida Public Service Company's brochure, and commented favorably on same with re- gards Mid-Florida Public Service Company performing the en- gineering on the city's proposed extensions to the water system. Motion was made by Mr. Turville, seconded by Mr.Pool and carried, that Mr. Boyd, Chairman of the Water Committee, be authorized to instruct Mid-Florida Public Service Company to complete a sur~ey of the entire city's water system. Motion was made by Mr. Turville, seconded by Mr. Boyd and carried, that the purchasing agent be authorized to enter into an agreement with Mr. Thomas Phillips to remove the moss and dead wood from certain trees in Oak Hill Cemetery and Oak Hill Cemetery Addition at a price of $450.00. Motion by Mr. York, seconded by Mr. Turville and carried that the bills be paid. Chairman Bishop read a letter from the Municipal Code Corporation wherein they urged that City Attn'y. Morse complete the portions of additional revisions and/or changes to city ordinances and city charter, which he had retained, in order that they might proceed with the final publication of our Code. The matter was turned over to the Mayor.
