Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday -
January 3, 1961. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M.
by Chairman G. Y. Middleton with all Council members present.
Other officials present were: Mayor BonJorn, Clerk Johnson, Deputy
Clerk Williams, Sup't. Sheldon, Chief Tyndal, Water Sup't. Gaydos,
Municipal Judge Tryon, Inspector Snyder and City Attn'y. Morse.
Others present were newly elected councilmen, Harold Turville,
William Boyd and Charles Pool; Messrs. George Kirkwood and F. B.
Innis. A representative of the Orlando Sentinel was also present.
The minutes of the adjourned meeting held Tuesday - December
20, 1960 and of the special meeting held Wednesday - December 21,
1960, were read and approved.
Chief of Police Tyndal submitted his regular monthly police
report, which was accepted and ordered filed.
Inspector Snyder submitted a report on building for the year
1960, as follows: 57 new residences, 29 new commercial buildings,
176 repairs and/or additions to residences and 28 repairs and/or
additions to commercial buildings for a total of $1,442,494.00.
Charles Roe, Chairman of the Water Committee, reported 'that
he had received the engineering report on the proposed water faci-
lities expansion, and urged that the new Council seriously con-
sider such proposed expansion. Mr. Roe further reported that,
in his opinion, planning and zoning was one of the city admini-
stration's weakest points and strongly urged that the new Council
acquire the services of qualified planning and zoning consultants.
Mr. Roe still further reported, that in his op1n1on a sewerage
system was imperative to future progress of Clermont, and that
even though in the last election the voters had not expressed a
desire for such a sewerage system, that he strongly recommended
that the new Council instigate an educational program in an effort
to better acquaint the general pUblic with the necessity for its
attainment.
Chairman Middleton reported that he expected to have his
recommended plans for the plotting of the new cemetery additwtion
completed within a few days at which time he would turn~~ over
to the City Clerk for the consideration of the Council.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. Glenn Keefer, wherein
he requested the widening of an alley near and abutting his pro-
perty. The matter was tabled pending appointment of a new Streets
Committee at which time the matter would be turned over to them
for consideration.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from the Honorable Judge, J. K.
Tryon, with regards to the proposed change in state legislation
whereby any person charged with "Driving While Intoxicated", would
be entitled to trial in County Court before a jury upon written
request.

It appeared to be the op~n~on of Judge Tryon that the proposed
change would not be to the best interest of the City of Clermont.
City Attn'y. Morse commented on the proposal and stated that the
matter would be discussed at the next Lake County League of Muni-
cipalities Meeting. Motion was made by Mr. Roe, seconded by Mr.
York and carried, that the Council request Mayor BonJorn to advise
Representative Welborn Daniel, in writing, that local municipal
officials were opposed to his plan.
Motion by Mr. Bishop, seconded by Mr. York and carried,
that a bill in the amount of $2577.00 due Mid~Florida Public
Service Company for engineering services rendered the water de-
partment, and, a bill in the amount of $62.48 due Mr. Frederick
H. Bair, Jr. for services rendered to the Council in connection
with the public hearing on zoning, be paid.
Motion by Mr. Roe, seconded by Mr. Christenson and carried,
that other current bills be paid.
Chairman G. Y. Middleton expressed Thanks to all members of
the Council for their hard work and cooperation during the past
two years, and extended his best wishes to the new Council.
Motion by Mr. Roe, seconded by Mr. York and carried, that
meeting adjourn.
