HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-28-1960 Regular Meeting '--~ ADJOURNED ~mETING ~ .,., An adjourned meeting of the City Council was held in the office of the City Clerk on Monday - November 28, 1960. The meeting was called to order at 5:00 P.M. by Council Chairman, G.Y.Middleton, with all Council members present with the exception of Mr. Roe. Mr. Bishop offered and moved the adoption of, A RESOLUTION PERTAINING TO THE CLOSING OF PALM COURT, AND, THE FRACTIONAL EAST 275 FEET OF JUNIATA STREET. The motion was seconded by Mr. York and unanimously carried. Chairman Middleton stated that the next order of business was the examination of petitions for nomination of the following offices for the General Election to be held on Tuesday - December 13~ 1960. Petitions of the c2ndidates; the office to which nominated, and, the following listed questions to appear on the ballot, are listed below: f-TAYOR ( 1 year term) Joseph BonJorn Alton Parker COUNCILMAN ( 2 year term) William Boyd C. C. Christenson G. Y. Middleton Charles Pool, Jr. Bronson Robinson Harold Turville QUESTION # 1. Do you want the Council of the City of Clermont to employ a City Manager? QUESTION # 2.. Do you want a new Community Building in the City of Clermont? QUESTION # 30 ~ .,., Do you want a Sewage System in the City of Clermont? QUESTION # 40 Do you want new and modern Fire Fighting Equipment and Fire Station? After examination of the petitions of the candidates, awi the office to which nominated, rtt. Bishop moved that the petitions be declared in order and that the Bity Clerk be authorized to have the ballots printed. The motion wan seconded by fIr. York and carried. '..... RES OL U T.I 0 N -- .,., t..JHEREAS, PALI1 COURT, a street in Palm Gardens t & subdivision in the City of Clermont, Lake County, Florida, and as represented on the ~~p or Plat thereof duly filed' and recorded in the Public Records of Lake County, Florida, has never been opened, improved or used by the public and is not needed as a street or thorough- fare in said City for the reason that said Palm Gardens and the lands lying immediately North of, abutting and adjacent thereto, are o\1.ned by the Board of Public In- struction ot Lake Oounty, Florida, and said lands are ex- clusively used by said Board in the operation of the Clermont- Minneola High School for white students; and, tmEREAS, the lands lying immediately North and South of, abutting and adjacent to the East 275 feet of Juniata Streeet ly1n~ Hast of Bloxam Avenue and East of Scott Street, as represented on the Maps or Plats of Lincoln Park Annex ~d Lincoln Heights SchoOl, respectively, subdivisions in s~id City, duly filed and recorded in the Publio Records of Lake County, Florida, are ot1ned by the Board of Publio In- struction of Lake County, Florida; and, that said Board is preparing to construct a colored High School on said adjoining lands, and that to continue to allow said East 275 feet of Dloxam Avenue to remain open as a street or thoroughfare in suid Oity would endanger the lives of the students in said school; therefore, ~ --.... BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of tho City of Clermont that the City Clerk of this City do publish in the Clermont Preso, a newspaper of genoral circulation published weekly in Clermont, Lake County, Florida, a Notioe for. two (2) consecutive weeks that said Council ~~ll. at its Adjourned Regular Meeting to be held on Deoember 6, 1960, consider the passage of an Ord- inance forever disoontinuing and vacating the streets hereinabove described, thereby giving aIq' and all persons opportun.i ty to be heard; and, -- ,., BE IT FURTHER llESOLVED that after due hearing thereon, if there be no valid objections, the said Council pass an Ordinance discontinuing and vacating said above described streets and therein provide for the revorsion of the lands uith1n said Streets in equal proportions, to the owners of the lands immediately adjacent to and abutting both sides of said streets; and, that a copy of this Resolution" Proof of Publication of said Notioe, and said Ordinance, duly certified to by said City Clerk, be recorded in the Public Records of Lako County, Florida. --~----~~-~-~---~---~---~~~~~~~-~~--~-~--------~-----~- ADOP.rm> by the City Council of the Oity of Clermont, Lake County, Florida, at its Adjourned Regular Meeting held 011 rTovember 28. 1960.
