05-03-1960 Regular Meeting REGULAR I"IEETING -e A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday - May 3, 1960. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Vice-Chairman Charles B. Roe with the following Council members present: John York and C.C.Christenson; Absent: Bishop and Middleton. Other officials present were: Mayor Bon Jorn, Clerk Johnson, Deputy Clerk Williams, Sup't. Sheldon~ Inspector Snyder, City Attn'y. Morse and Chief of Police Tyndal. The reading of the minutes of the past Council meetings was deferred until the next meeting on May 17, 1960. Mayor BonJorn reported that he had received a request for installation of a street light at the corner of Drew and DeSoto streets. The matter was referred to the Street Lighting and Sanitation Committee for their investigation and recommendation. The matter of recent installation of a street light at 4th street and the railroad tracks was discussed and motion was made by Mr. York, seconded by Mr. Christenson and carried that such installation be accepted. Mr. Christenson, Chr. of the Parks Committee, reported that inasmuch as he had been unable to contact the cemetery man at Lakeland, that he had no recommendations to make at this time on the new cemetery addition, hut would make a report at the next meeting. Mr. Christenson further reported that he had received a letter from Mr. Marvin Styles wherein he requested, on behalf of the Clermont-Minneola Summer School Recreation Program, permission to use the shuffleboard courts at Kehlor Park on one day of each week. Mr. Christenson was authorized to contact Mr. H.Forrest Kimball, Pres. of the Shuffleboard Club, and work out an arrangement whereby the request submitted by Mr. Styles would be granted. Clerk Johnson read a petition with regards the draining of Lakes Shady Nook, Crystal and Sparkling Water into Lake Minneola, which was ordered filed. Mr. Christenson offered and moved the adoption of, A RESOLUTION relative to the construction of a culvert under the property and tracks of the T & G Railroad. The motion was secondec by Mr. York and carried. A copy of the RESOLUTION in full appear~ immediately following these minutes. Clerk Johnson read a letter from Colonel H.W.Tarkington of , the Civil Defense ''\Therein he advised,!.that there is a possibility that the City of Clermont may be able to obtain some financial assistance under Public Law #875, 81st Congress, for the re- pairing of streets damaged by the heavy rains last March. Clerk Johnson further informed the Council that he had written ,Mr. Karl Lehmann, local director of Civil Defense, for the necessary forms in which to make application for such financial aid, but todate had not received them. Sup't. Sheldon was directed to investigate a tree located on City Property in front of 1222 5th street, that was reported to be breaking up the sidewalk. Sup't. Sheldon reported that the pumping of water from Lakes Crystal and Sparkling Water into Lake Minneola should be in progress by the end of this week.. Mr. Roe, Chr. of the Water Committee, discussed with the Council the proposed sewerage system for the City of Clermont and suggested that public hearings be held in the near future to better inform the public on such proposed sewerage system. Motion was made by Mr. Christenson, seconded by Mr. York and carried that' Clerk Johnson be instructed to have ballots printed for the Special Freeholders Election to be held on June 13, 1960. . Chief Tyndal submitted his regular monthly police report which was accepted and ordered filed. Motion was made by Mr. Christenson, seconded by Mr. York and carried, that meeting adjourn. ... ... ... RESOLUTION WHEREhS~ the City Council of the City of Clermont in order to lower the flood level of some lakes within.me City of Clermont, Florida has found it necessary to construct an 18 inch reinforced. con- crete drainage culvert crossing under the property and tracks of the Tavares & Gulf Railroad at a point 1584 feet, more or less, South- westwardly from said railroad's mile past 5-8; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that the M~yor and Clerk of the City of Cler... mont are hereby authorized to execute for and in behalf of the City of Clermont, an agreem.ent between said City and said railroad authorizing the construction of said drainnge culvert (copy thereof on file in the City Clerl<'s Office). Montrose Streets) during the usual business hours of each day, 8 to 12 A.M. and 1 P.M. to 5 P.M. each week day except Saturday and Sunday as posted on doors of said building, to and including June 1, 1960.
