An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of
Clermont was held at the office of the city Clerk on
Tuesday, November 25, 1958.
The meeting was called to order by CouJjl.cil Chairman Charles
Roe at 7:30 p. M. with all Council members present with the
Exception of rlJ:r. Boyd. Mayor Keene was also absent. Others
present were Police Chief Dempsey, Mr. Lively and Mr. Preston
Maynard.
Ehief Dempsey introduced Mr. Lively to the Council and
recommended that he be engaged as a Police officer for the
City of Clermont. After considerable discussion regarding
the matter Chief Dempsey was advised that it was entirely
up to the Mayor and himself to decide on the matter, but that
he must bear in mind that there was not sufficient fmnds
budgeted for the Police department to pay the extra salary for
the fiscal year. Clerk Johnson reported that approximately
$1,500.00 was available. Mr. Oswalt was of the opinion that
that the Police Department should operate with its present
personnell under a program of having the Police officers on
"call" but not on duty during certain hours of the day.
Mr. Maynard prote sted certain valuat ions which had been
placed on his property for tax purposes. Mr. Maynard was advised
that the tax roll had been adopted and that nothing could be
done about the matter for this year, but that he should
present his complaint at the next Board of Equalization meeting
which would be held sometime next year.
Mr. Maynard requested some assistance in claying a part of
East Desoto street. Mr. Maynard was advised that if he would
clear and grade the rightofway that the city would clay the
surface as a temporary measure.
Mr. Oswalt presented a plot plan of a proposed subdivision
to be known as Hiawtha Shores and requested that the Council
approve same.
Mr. Roe asked ~~. Oswalt to preside over the meeting in order
that he might offer a motion.
Motion was made by Roe, seconded by Bishop, that the city
approve and accept I-I1awtha Shores as a subdivisioj in the
City of Clermont and that the Mayor and Clerk be instructed
to execute the necessary plat of same. Upon roll call vote
the ayes. were Roe, Carrington and Bishop. Nayes: none.
Abstaining~ Oswalt. Absent. Boyd. The Motion carried.
Examination was made by the Council of the petetions for
nomination of the following offices for the General election
to be held on Dedember 9, 1958, and all petetions were found
to be in order:.
