11-18-1958 Regular Meeting .. --~ ----. "'=- An adj ourned meet ing of the City Counc il of the City of Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday, November 18, 1958. The meeting was called to order by Council President, Charles B. Roe, at 7:30 p. M. with all Council members present. Other officials present were: Mayor Keene, Sup't. Sheldon, and Police Chief Dempsey. Others present were Mr. Wilson Sheppard, auditor for the City of Clermont; Miss Betty Tower of the Chamber of Commerce; and a representative of the local press. ~e minutes of the regular meeting heldon November 4, 1958, were read and approved. Mr. Sheppard spoke to the Counc il with regards to the new accounting methods being put into effect by the City, and explained the manner in which requisitions, purchase orders, and receipts would be handled. The members of the Council were in full agreement with the programs outlined by Mr. Sheppard. Miss Betty Tower, repre sent at ive of the Chamber of Commerce, inquired of the Council if they had had opportunity to examine the proposed budget submitted by the Chamber of Commerce for the next fiscal year and if so, what had been their reaction. Motion was made by Mr. Oswalt, seconded by Bishop, and carried, that the City accept the budget as submitted by the Chamber of ~ommerce; that it become a part of the minutes, and that the City Clerk be author- ized to issue a check in the amount of $3000.00 to the Chamber of Commerce to cover cost of those items set forth in their budget under the item of requested city money, and that this amount be charged against public ity. Mr. Bishop, Chairman of the Streets Committee, reported that the street curbing machine was now in ope rat ion and that apparently it was doing an excellent job. Clerk Johnson was requested to write a letter to the Clermont Builders' Supply and request that their loaded trucks travel over Bloxam Avenue between Highway 1150 and Hook Street and/or Lake Shore Drive. Mr. Bishop again brought up the matter of Mr. Preston Maynord's request for financial assistance from the City toward the grading and claying of a part of De Soto Street in the eastern part of the City.. It was the concensus of opinion that this matter should be handled in the same manner as all other requests for street paving, and that if Mr. Maynard desired that this portion of De Soto Street be paved, that he proceed with the obtaining of the necess- ary names on a petition, and the City Clerk was instructed to so adv1se fir. l'laynard. Mr. Boyd, Chairman of the Sanitation Committee, stated that he was not prepared at this time to offer recommemded changes in the Sanitation Ordinance, but that he would endeavor to do so at the next Council meeting. Mr. Boyd reported that the Director of the South Lake Mem- orial Hospital had requested that the City construct a sidewalk along the north side of Juniata Street, from Seventh Street to the Hospital. This matter was tabled. Mrs. Carrington, Chairman of the Building Committee, reported that $3525.00 in building permits had been issued since November 1, 1958. e Clerk Johnson was requested to contact Star Neon Sign Service and obtain prices on directional signs for local churches, and after obtaining such prices, to So advise the local churches in an effort to determine if they desired to purchase such signs. These signs to be erected along Highw~ #50. Clerk Johnson was also re- quested to obtain a price on a Hospital sign. Police Chief Dempsey was directed to install the necessary "truck route II and "no trucks allowed" signs in order to control the truck traffic. Mr. Charles Roe reported that the Lake County Commiss- ioners had made the necessary secondary road funds available to the State Road Department, and that State Road If 561 would be rebuilt from the, town of Ninneola along its present route to Minneola Avenue, and thence westwardly along Minneola Avenue to Twelfi,h Street, and thence south to Highway # 50, and that 561A would be resurfaced from Minneola Avenue, north through Clergrove, and to Highway k 50. Motion was made by Mrs. Carrington, seconded by Mr. Bishop, and carried, that Clerk Johnson write a letter of thanks to Mr. Jack Simpson, Chairman of the Board of Lake County Commissioners, for their help and cocperation for making this project possible. Motion was made by Mrs. Carrington, seconded b~ Mr. Bishop and carried, that this Council request that the Lake County Zoning Board make every effort to zone that property abutting the City limit s of Clermont, as nearly as possible to the Same zoning in effect by the City. Mr. Boyd reported that a method of sealing water meters had been effected, and that the water meters were now being sealed when the water service was discontinued.
