A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
Clermont was held at the Office of the City Clerk on
Tuesday, November 4, 1958.
The meeting was called to order by Council President,
Charles B. Roe, at 7:30 p. M. with all Council members
be ing pre sent. Other offic ia1s pre sent were Mayor
Keene, City Attorney Morse, Sup't. Sheldon, and Police
Chief Dempsey. Visiors present were Mr. O. T. Cook,
Miss Betty Tower of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. J. K.
Vance, and representives of the Florida-Georgia Tractor
Company and the Wayne Street Sweeper Company. The
local Press was also represented.
The minutes of the adjourned meeting held on October
21, 1958, were read and approved.
Mr. O. T. Cook presented to the members of the Council
an audit and proposed budget of the local Chamber of
Commerce.
Mr. J. K. Vance requested permission to locate a
Christian Science Society directional sign at the
intersection of Highway II 50 and 5th Street. Mr. Vance
was assured his request would be given consideration
and he would heceive an answer in the near future.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. Harold Roberts
from the local Church of Christ requesting permission
to locate a Church of Christ directional sign at the
intersection of Highway II 50 and West Avenue. Mr.
Roberts was assured his request would be given con-
sideration and he would receive an answer in the near
future.
Representatives of the Florida-Georgia Tractor Co.
and the Wayne Street Sweeper Co. appeare4 before the
Council and outlined the prices and terms on street
sweepers. t!l,\Llliey:were advised that the Council would
give their propositions consideration and if the City
of Clermont decided to purchase a street sweeper,
they would be given an opportunity to bid.
Mr. Wilbur Jones arrived at the meeting at this time,
and he advised the Council that he had been assessed
for the full value of hiS home on the 1958 tax roll,
and that such home had not been complete as of January,
1958, and therefore he should be assessed for land

Motion was made by Mr. Boyd and seconded by Oswalt,
and carried, that the request by Mr. Jones by granted
and that the valuation of Lotrill, Bowman and Brown
replat, be reduced to land value only.
Mr. Oswalt ;jdvised the Council that the building
which he haa. erected on Lot s It 14, 16, and the East ~
of 18, Block II 111, Sunset Park, had not been com-
pleted by January 1, 1958, but that he had also been
assessed for the building.
Motion was made by Mr. Boyd, seconded by Bishop, and
carried that the value of Lot s :It 14, 16, and the East i-
of 18, Bloc~ II Ill, Sunset Park, be reduced to land
value only.

Motion was made by Mr. Bishop, seconded by Mr. Boyd,
and carried, that Tax Collector Johnson be authorized
tto correct any errors in the tax roll and to make
adjustments for Homestead, Widows, and Disability
exemptions where they are not previously allowed on
the tax roll and where sufficient evidence is produced.
Sup't. Sheldon reported that rock had been spread on
Minneola Avenue where it crosses West Lake.
A discussion took place relative to the drainage to
the parking lot 'at the school.
Mr. Boyd, Chairman of the Water Committee, requested
that some plan be adopted whereby water meters could
be sealed when turned off; thereby eliminating the
pract ice of having them turned on by the general public.
Sup't. Sheldon was instructed to drill the water meters,
or take what other steps might be necessary in order to
see that they might be sealed, and that in the
future all water meters be sealed on cut-off.
Mr. Boyd requested permission from the City to pur-
chase a supply of 6 n Transite Pipe as authorized
by the budget. This permission was granted and
Sup't. Sheldon was authorized to make such purchase
at his convenience.
A discussion took place relative to the past practice
of the City of cleaning privately owned lots and billing
the owner for this service. It was decided that
the City would not have the necessa ry time or man-
POWer to continue this practice, and that in the
future such cleaning would be contracted to private
concerns. The City will continue to handle these
matters for the property owners, and will pay the
private concerns for their services, and bill the
property owners.
Mr. Boyd was requested to make a study of the City
Sanitation Ordinance, and at the next meeting to
offer his recommendations for some improved method of
the fee system of surplus trash hauling now in ex-
istance.

Mrs. Carrington, Chairman of the Building Committee,
reported that $71,500.00 in building permits had been
issued by the City in the month of October.
Clerk Johnson read the Police Report for the month of
October which was accepted and ordered filed.
Motion was made by Mr. Oswalt, seconded by Mr. Boyd,
and carried, that Clerk Johnson be authorized to
buy the necessary furniture for the Police Department
Office and the Municipal Court Room.
Police Chief Dempsey reported that he had had a re-
quest for certain changes in the school zone of the
Colored School, but that it would- be necessary for him
to wait until the next Council meeting before making
recommendations.

Clerk Johnson was authorized to purchase an Olivetti
Calculator at a price of $500.00.
Mot ion was made by r-irs. Carrington, seconded by r-lr.
Bishop, and carried, that the bills be paid.
Motion was made by Mrs. Carrington, seconded by Mr.
Boyd that the meeting be adjourned.
