An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of
Clermont was held at the City Hall on Tuesday, October 21,
1958. The meeting was called to order by Council President,
Charles B. Roe, at 7:30 P. M. with all Council members present.
Other officials present were: Mayor Keene, Sup't. Sheldon,
Police Chief Dempsey. Others prexent were Mr. Charles Clark
and representatives of the press.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on October 14, 1958,
were read and aDproved.
Mr. Clark appeared before the Council and requested that
some steps be taken to eliminate the dust from the clay street
across West Lake. Mr. Clark was assured that this matter
would be taken care of immediately, that in fact, the work had
already been ordered. Mr. Roe offered his apologies',to Mr. Clark,
in behalf of the City for allowing the condition to continue as
long as it had.
Mr. Bishop, chairman of the Streets Committee, stated that
Mr. Preston Maynard had approached him with regards to clay-
ing or paving a part of East DeSoto street. Clerk Johnson was
instructed to advise ~~. Maynard proper procedure for requesting
the pavement of a street was to present the Council with a pet-
ition, signed by not less than fifty one percent (51%) of the
abutting property o~mers requesting such petition and said pet-
ition stating that it is understood by the property owners that
they understand that they are to pay two thirds (one third for
each side of the street) of the cost of the project. The Council
will then give the matter due consideration.
Matter of paving a part of Millholland street was discussed.
Matter of City obtaining clay for its future needs was dis-
cussed and Mr. Oswalt was appointed to try to work out some
method of obtaining the needed clay.
~r. Boyd of the Water Committee, stated that some two inch lines
had been recently laid and suggested that a six inch line be
installed between the end of the present six inch line on Chest-
nut street to 12th street. Mr. Boyd was authorized to proceed.
Mr. Boyd reco~ended that the City engage a street sweeper to
give the City a thorough cleaning before the tourist season in
order that a cost for such operation might be determined.
Mr. Boyd was requested to report as soon as possible on the cost
of new garbage cans for the down-town section of the City.

Mrs. Carrington, Chairman of the Building Committee, reported
that $12,000.00 in Building Permits had been issued since the
last meeting.
Clerk Johnson was requested to obtain copies of the latest
editions of the National Electrical, Plumbing, and Building
Codes, and that if possible the Building Code covering re-
sidential, business and fire zone regulations.
Mayor Keene reported on complaints regarding dogs and roosters.
Motion was made by Bishop, seconded by Carrington, and carried,
that Sup't. Sheldon be authorized to purchase a level from the
58-59 Budget.
Motion by Boyd, seconded by Bishop, and carried, that the City
purchase a fence for the City Barn area at a price of $1,349.00
from the 1957-58 Budget.
Motion by Bishop, seconded by Carrington, and carried, that
the City purchase a used Road Patrol #112 "Cat" Grader at a
price of $3,750.00.

Motion by Oswalt, seconded by Boyd, and carried, that Sup't.
Sheldon be authorized to turn an excess grader over to the
Rozier Company for sale.
Clerk Johnson opened bids for a new Police car from Harper
:Motor Co., Sun('Chevrolet Co., and Bowen Ford Company.
Motion was made by Boyd, seconded by Oswalt, and carried, that
the City accept the low bid of $1,390.00 from Bowen Ford Co.
and that the Clerk be authorized to place an order \rith said
Bowen Ford Company for a new Police car under the terms of
~he bid agreement.
Clerk Johnson was requested to ask Mr. Bill Kelly, of the Health
Department, to make an inspection of the Kessler Building on
the corner of Montrose and Eighth streets.
Mrs. Carrington offered, and moved, that it be adopted, a
RESOLUTION pertaining to the formation of a Gas District in
parts of Orange, Lake and Seminole Counties. The motion was
~econded by Mr. Boyd, and carried unanimously. A copy of the
RESOLUTION in full appears i:crnediately following these minutes.
Motion by Carrington, seconded by Bishop, and carried, that
Clerk Johnson be authorized to destroy all non-essential City
records of prior date to 1947. This authorization does not
include the destruction of Paving book liens, tax rolls, minute
books or any documents or other record which might be of historic
value.
Motion by Bishop, seconded by Boyd, and carried, that meeting
be adjourned.
