A regula~ meeting of the City Council of the City of
Clermont was held at the city hall on Tuesday, September
2, 1958. The meeting was called to order by Council
President Charles Roe at 7:30 p. M. with all Council
members present. Others present were Mayor Keene, City
attorney ~orse, Supt. Sheldon, Police Chief Parker, Fireman
Fullwood and a nuober of visitors.
The minutes of the meeting held on AUguSD 19, 1958, were
read and approved f1S read.

f-':r. Brown spol-\e::to',the, Council regarding the possibility of
replatting certain lots in Block 52, Crestview and block
52, Clermont. In~sJuch as the proposed plat did not take
into consideration the required fifty foot streets as out
lined in the Ordi~ance on subdivisions the matter was referred
to the Building Com~ittee for consideration and recommendation.
Nr. Roger Johnston and r~r. John Owen appeared before the
Council and requested that the city take some steps to remedy
the excessive damage caused to their beaches by faulty drainage
from the street. The matter was referred to Supt, Sheldon with
instructions to re~nedy the situation aa soon as possible.
Mr. Bishop, Chairman of the Streets Committee stated that he
did not have a report.
Hr. Boyd, chairman of the l'Jater Committee, stated that he still
hoped to get some Nork done on water main installations in the
near future.
The matter of the light on the lIJater tank needing repairs
lIJas referred to Supt, Sheldon.
Clerk Johnson was requested to have Florida Power Corp.
connect the directional signs at tne",intersections of Highway
"50 II and Fifth and Hig)1way "50" ninth streets, in order that
the signs would be lighted.
Chairman Roe read a letter from Dr. Hall of the Lake County
Health Department relative to the proposed clinic in Clermont,
and a letter from r-:r. r:2anner director of permenant mosquito
control, relative to the clearing ....of lrJest Lake.
Inasmuch as it is necessary that the city furnish the ground
on which the Clinic building is to be located, clerk Johnson
w~s asked to contact County Clerk Frank Owen and determine
the manner in which title to the property should be transferred.
Clerk Johnson was also to contact gr. Hall and determine the
site of the property desired.
Mrs. Carrineton, Chairman of the Building Committee, reported
that ~:::L~2,450.00 in building permits had been iGsued during
the month of August.

Hrs. Ca:c'rington brough up the matter of certain umzlaimed
land lying East of ;:hsston and South of f'1innehaha avemil.e.
City attorney Eorse stated that if such land exists that the
c it;)T did not have title to it and that, in his opinion, it
is almost impossible to say just where title to said land
i s vest e d .
Chairman Roe reported that 8t the last meeting of the Board
of County Commissioners a Resolution had been passed to the
effect that the County set aside all lands adjacent to the
Patalaka river, as well as certain other lands throughout the CounL
which had origionaly been obtained for park purposes, for
parD.: purposes only.

T~e matter of a meeting between the City Council and ~r.
Greene and Vr. Lustre of the State Road department was again
discussed and Vr. Roe ae;reed to try to arrange such a meeting.
rIot ion was made by Royd, seconded by Oswalt and carried
that the city hold a special free holders referendum to
determine if the freeholders of the City of Clermont favor
a special 1 mill tax levy for a period of ten years with
the proceeds from sych tax levy being used for the construction
of a community building.
Police Chief Parker was directed to investigate the report
that laundry water, from a residence located at the
intersection of Minnehaha Avenue and Fifth streets, was
being drained onto the street. Inthe e~ent that such report
T'ras found to be correct, Cl}ief Parker waS directed to
inform the property owner that the situation must be
immediately corrected.
Chief Parker was directed to advise the owners of the sleat ing
rink, located at the corner of 12th street and Minneola
Avenue, that their Sunday operations must cease and to request
that they keep the volume of their mechanical music at a
p; i nimum .

clerk advertise for bids for the painting of the community
building as per specificatio~s to be furnished by the
Building Committee; it being understood that the job must
be completed on, or before, October 1, 1958.
fIotion by Carrington, seconded by Bishop and carried,
that inasmuch as there had not been any objection offered
as to the proposed change s in the L;oning Ordinance, as
advertised, that the City attorney be instructed to prepare
t1".e nece ssar'y arnendrr.ent s to the ex ist ing Loning Ordinance
to incorporate the changes as advertised to the general pub~ic.
Poibice Chief Parker's report was read, accepted. and ordered
filed.
