An adjourned meeting of the City Council of tho City of
Clermont waS held at the City hall on Tuesday, July 15,
1958. The meeting 1~as called to order by Council chairman
Charles Roe at 7:30 P. N. v'lith all Council members present..
Others pre sent were I~8Yor Keene, City attorney florse, Supt.
Sheldon, police Chief Parker, Fireman Fullwood, Representatives
of the press, Hr. Locke and I'1r. T-:cGee of Florida Telephone
Corp. and r,ir. Oakley Seaver.

Minutes of the re~~lar meeting held on July 1, 1958, were
read and approved.
Mr. Locke spoke to the Council, giving Florida Telephone
Corp. reasons for removing I'lontverde from the Clermont telephone
exchange and plac ing in the Vlinter Garden Exghange. Nr. Locke
WQS assured that, although the City Council realized that
Florida Telephone Corp. had reQsons f8r making the change,
the City Council intended ma~{i.nr: every effort in an endeavor
to have I';ontverde and Ferndale placed in the Clermont exchange.
Hr. Locke was asked for a list off all t~lephone subscribers
in the Kontverde-Ferndale area in order that the the City
of Clermont could poll such memters in an effort to determine
their preference.
r~r. Seaver spoke to the Council relative to Post office
service and rural routes.
11r. Bishop, chairman of the Street s Committee, reported
that constructio:'l had started on Settle street and that the
rebuilding of Lal<e Shore drive was under way.
filr. Boyd, cha2rman of the \~ater and Sanitation Committee,
stated that he had no report.
Xr~ Oswalt, chairman of the Parks Committee, reported
that work had started on the new athlet ic Field and that
it would be necessary for the Council to give Consideration
to the widening of Pitt street and the possible opening and
paving of some other street in connection with this project.
Er. Oswalt further reported that f-1r. Shewey was making a survey of
~;e st lake, as instrmcted, and that the survey should be
complete and necessary draT~ings ,completed by the next
Council meeting. Mr. Om~alt requested, and W8S given,
permis sion to remove the old docl<s, which were once a part
of Carl Prime's Boat Center, and to salvage whatever material
NC.S possible for the construction of float ing docks at the
new boat ramp.
Supt. Sheldon Nas aslced to mal:e an estimate of the cost
of paving ~lillholland street and to furnish r'~r. Don McCaffrey

police Chief Parker was directed to have the necessary signs
Flaceo. at Bloxam Avenue whereby said Bloxam i'..venue would be
open to heavy truck traffic from Highway 115011 South to Hook
street.
Clerk Johnson waS requested to contact Mr. Herb Starr, of
Starr Neon Signs, and determine if it would pe possible to
include on the sign located at "7 &; 50 the lettering
"Business District ", to also inform Hr. Starr that such
lettering is to ~e included on the sign now on order, and to
request that he increase the hei~1th of the two directional
signs recently placed on hir;h:'J8-Y "$'0>" as soon as possible.
Ers. Carrington, chairman of the Buildin[: Committee, reported
that :J~12,900.00 in bu Iding permits had been issued since
July 1, 1958. Hrs. Carrington alSO brought up the matter of
the proposed aoendrr.ent s to the 2,oning Ordinanme, . but as there
waS some disagreement as to the propoEed boundarle s the matter

L'ayor Keene reported that he had purc' _ased, for the City,
ti"'.at strip of lond lying He st of f-iontrose street, and extending
into the marsh, at the County tax sale at a price of ~150. CO.

:':ayor Keene reported that he had received numerous complaints
concerning the late hours at which Clervue Drive-in Theatre
was operating. Clerk Johnson was requested to write to Clervue
Drive-in Theatre and explain the situation to them and request
the cooperation in the matter.
Clerk Johnson requested permission to cancel certain delinquent
taxes for 1939 and prior years on property aRned by the city,
and/or on certain ]')roperties previously sold by the City or
County.
Motion was made by O~lalt, seconded by Boyd and carried that
Clerk Johnson be authorized to cancel 1939 and prior taxes on
those propert ie s for l'irhich the City of Clermont is liable for
such taxes. The properties in question include the following:
