An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City
of Clerm.::mt \"laS held at the city hall on Tuesday, June 24,
1958. The meetinG was called to order by Council Chairman
Charles Roe at 7:30 P.f1. with all Council me@bers present.

The minutes of the meeting held June 3 and June 17, 1958,
were read and approved.
Lr. Sheldon reported on type and prices of brush and limb
chipper. Clerk Johnson was directed to secure bids on one
~=odel 12, Asphundh chipper, trailer nounted, with International
U - 175 motor, delivered Clermont. Clerk Johnson was also to
request a demonstration.
John R. Jones a~:'peared before the Council and requested
permission to construct two duplexes on a piece of property
located in Lot 6, Block N, City of Clermont. The piece
of property in question being 132' by 330' for a total of
43,560 square feet. Five residences are now located on this
property; one of \'".rhich Hr. Jones aG;rees to remove upon
completion of the tT,vO b.:ildings under consideration. f'lr. Jones
further acrees that he will not at any time make application
for permission to c.:nstruct a:.ditional buildings on the East side
of this property. f1otion was made by Oswalt, seconded by Boyd
and ca:ried that the 3uilding Committee be requested to issue
the proper buildin3 permit to John R. Jones, or Jones Brothers,
for the construction of the two duplexes in question. The
reason for this ma~ter coming before the Council was due to
the fact that such cOIlstruction as contemplated, alonG 1rJith
the existing buildings, constitute a group housin~ project.
It was decided that, and Police Chief Parker was directed to
trrke care of the matter, a siGn be placed approximately 100
yards south of Hook street, on Lake Shore Drive, directin~ all
truc~ traffic to use Hook street as a truck route.
Clerk Johnson was also directed to send letters to all known
3usinesses operatin~ heavy trucks, requestinG that they do not
use certain streets.
A request for a street light on ~ast Avenue, approximately
mid \,vay bet1",reen l'innehaha 'lvenue ana Lake Shore Drive was
considered by the Council and it Has aGreed that it was
probably to the best interest of all c~ncerned that street
lights not be located in the center of blocks where no street
intersection exists.
~r. I~Caffrey spoke to the Council re~aEdin3 the possibility
of paving f'/iillholland Street from Highway "50" to 4.1mond
Street. ~r. HcCaffrey was inforQed that an estimate of the
cost 1rJOuld be given him II'Jithin a few days.

Hr. OsrHal t, clJairr.'1an of the Parks Committee, reported that
he hoped to have the boat ranp, to be located on the South
side of Lake I''iinneola, completed by the Fourth of July.
fir. OS\\Talt further re:;)orted "Ghat approximately ::~190.00 had
been expended for repairs on the ball park and that the
shel ters ceine erected at the Shuffle Board Courts \,"JQuld
be completed shortly and that due to minor changes the contract
price would be increased $100.00; half of which is to be paid
by the City and l:.al!' by the ~;huffle Board Association.
Lotion was r.lade by OS1rJal t, seconded by Bishop and carried,
t:>at a surve:T be mac3.e of Hest Lake Drive from f'J.i:tlneola Avenue
to Carroll Street, a~d a survey be made of Carroll Street
frO!l 12th street to tDe eastern boundary of Johnson's replat,
and a survey made to determine the eastern boundary of lot 1,
block 115, Johnson's neplat, and that the Surveyor be instructed
to locate and place permanent markers where necessary.
r:rs. Carrington, chairman of the Building Committee,
reported that 153,000.00 in building permits had been issued
since June 1, 1?5B.

ri8Yor I~eene reported that r':r. Sherman Devine had been
appointed to the Police department on a temporary basis.
Police Chief Parker reported that boat signs had been
placed under the bridge crossing the canal adjacent to
Layor Keene I s prop<:rty.
A letter from the Zoning Commission making their recommendations
on requests from the Council concerning certain changes in
L.oning. Inasmuch as only one of the suggested zoning changes
'\las recommended, motion was made by Oswalt, seconded by Boyd
and carried that the Council resubmit their suggested changes
to the Loning Commission and that a j oint meeting of the City
Counc il a nO. the Zoning Commission be arranged, at the
convenience of the L,oning Commission, in order that the Council
may fully explain their reason for the recommended changes.

the amount of ';~a,080.00 be paid to the l,ake County Health
Department for Hosquito control work.
J'lotion by Bishop, seconded by Carrington and carried that
a bill in the amount of :t300. 00 be paid to Beach Clearing
Company for services.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from City attorney Norse
reearding the possibility of the city obtaining a certain
strip of property lying ~lest of Hontrose street and running
in to the marsh. Clerk Johnson \\las requested to contact
City attorney Horse regarding the possibility of obtaining
deeds from Mr. 30y Lassiter on this property.
(i reque st from South Lake Construct ion Company for larger
water mains in Shady Nook subdivision was considered.
Clerk Johnson was requeste~ to advise South Lake Construction
Company that the City did not have the funds or the time for
such constructioj at the present, but that they could ~e
assured that the city would give the matter its most serious
consideration when making up the budget for the next fiscal
year.
