1~ regular meet ing of the City Counc il of the City of Clermont
waS held at the City hall on Tuesday, June 3, 1958. The meeting
was called to order by Council Chairman Charles Roe at 7:30
P. ~!. with all Council members being present. Others present

The minutes of the adjourned meeting held on Hay 20, 1958,
2.1'::d the Special Called meetings held on nay 28 and r'iay 30
of 1958 were read and approved.
Nrs. John Lestberg stated to the (Vouncil tilat the restriced
time parking on seventh street, between DeSoto stre2t and
the Parking meters, created a hardship for employees working
in that part of the city, and respectfully requested th::t the
time restrictions be lifted. After Some discussion it was
decided that three or four parking spaces in front of Standrad
lmto Parts would be reserved for said Standard Auto Parts
and that t~e remainder of the street parking area between
Desoto street and the parkine meters would be unrestricted as
to time for parking.
Er. EcQuistion spoke to the Council ree;arding the painting
of the community bUild,ing, the installation of new window
she.des and certain minor repairs. l~fter some discussion
it ';'1o.S decided tm install the window shades and make some
m tnor repairs at thiS time and to postpone the paint ing, if
a~~, until early Fall. It was also agreed that it would
be permissable for the community building to be used three
mornings each week f'r private tutoring.
Fotion was made by OSltJ'alt, seconded by Boyd and carried that
';J olfe 8:: Kor..sler be a1J1ared the contract for the construct ion
of metal covers for ~even of the shdffle board courts at a
price of :;1,280.00, with the understanding, however, thnt
t~e specifications be changed to include galvinized post at
a possible extra cost.
r-Ir. Os~'Valt turned bids of SiX hundred dollars from Boykin
& Elliott and three hundred dollars from Beach Cle8~ing
Company, for the clearing, piline and burning of the property
to be used as a ce~etary addition. This matter had previsouly
be turned over tot he Parks and Cemetary Committee for act ion.
r;r. Boyd, chairman of the Sanitation Committee, reported that
t~1e city \ had a: heavy infestation of mosquitos and flys and
recommended that SODe special effort be put forward to
eliminate the condition. Supt. Sheldon was requested to
contact the County Health Department and have mosquito spraying
increased to t~ice weekly, and to also try to make some
arrangements with the health department for a spraying to
eliminate fly s.

Ers. Carrington, chairman of the Building Committee, reported
that J89,900.00 in building permits had been issued by the
City of Clermont durin~ the month of May.
Mayor !~ene recommended that a five mile per hour speed limit
be placed on boats traveling under the bridge over the canal
at his place and that skiing be eliminated. The council
instructed Police Ch:i,ef Parker to post the necessary signs
and to see th8,t the recommendations made by the I\;ayor were
enforced.
3unt. Sheldon was instructed to straighten a marker at
the cemetary which had been struck by a truck.

Foyor Keene informed the Council that Police Officer
Varkett had tendered his resigination from the Police Force
to become effective June 15. Kayor Keene and Police Chief
Par]{er were instructed to secure a replacement.
The Police Chief's report was read, accepted and ordered
filed.
f'ir. Otcbs Sickler, of tJestern Auto Associate Store, was
Granted permission to construct a boat ramp on Lake Winona,
at the foot of Pth street, with the understanding that such
construction is to be without expense to the city and with
the further understanding that such boat ramp is for use
by the general public.
Clerk Johnson was instructed to obtain the necessary sample
Ordinance for putting the Police 3etirement Fund into
operation for the Police Dept. of the City of Clermont.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Hrs. Carolyn Stanley, City
T2~ Assessor, wherein Mrs. Stanley protested the use of her
name as the Assessor,for the advertising of the Board of
Zq~alizat ion P.leet ing, as it was her content ion that all
valuat ions had been made by Hunnicutt and lis soc iate s and not
by her. The Council were unanamous in their opi~ion that
j'Irs. Stanley Nas the Tax assessor, that the preliminary roll
as submitted to them had been typed and submitted by her, and
that Hunnicutt and Associates were agents, or employees of the
City and definately did not hold the office of Ta.x Assessor.
Cler1{ Johnson reported that the door of the mauseoleum was
need of repe,irs. - The r.latter was referred to Supt. Sheldon.
The need of a brush chipper was discussed and it was unanamously
aereed that such equi~ment was needed in order to give better
service in the collection of trash. 'rhe matter was refer'ed
to Er. Boyd and Hr. Sheldon for recommendations as to the type
needed.
Eotion by Boyd, seconded by Carrington that bills be paid.
It was agreed by all members of the Council present that
all city employees with one year or more service with the
city should be granted a two weeks vacation with pay, and
that those er.lployees with less than one years service, but
more than six months service, be eranted one weeks vacation
t\1i th pny. The date s for the vac at ions were left to the
discretion of department heads.
Fotion by Boyd, seconded by Bishop, that meetinE:; adjourn
until June 17, 1958.
