ADJOURNED MEETING
An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the city of
Clermont was held at the city hall on Tuesdav, May 20,
1958. The meeting was called to order at $;40 P. M. by
Council chairman Charles Roe with all council members pr&sent
with the exception of Mrs. Carrington.
Other City officials present were Mayor Keene, City attorney Morse,
Supt. Sheldon, Police Chief Parker, Fireman Fullwood and Mrs.
Carolyn StanJ.ey~ city tax a;3sessor. Others present were attorney
Morse, and W. H. McQuistion.
The minutes of the meeting held on May 6, 1958, were read and
approved as read.
Mr. Cork appeared before the Council with regards to a previous
request that Lake Shore Drive west of 12th. street be closed.
After Some discussion Mr. Oswalt offered and moved the adoption
of a RESOLUTION vacating that portion of Lake Drive from the
western boundary of 12th street to the west end of Lake Drive
as shown on the Plat of Indian HillS, Official map of the City of
Clermont, as recorded in Plat book 8, pages 17 to 23, Public
Records of Lake County Florida. The motion was seconded by Mrl
Boyd and upon roll call vote the aye s were Roe, Bishop, Oswalt anc' ., ~J.'
Boyd. Nayes: none. Absent: Carrington. A copy of the RESOLUTIOlf
in full appears immediately following these minutes.
Mr. McQuistion spoke to the Couneil with regards their request
to the Zoning Commission to consiuer certain changes in local
Zoning. After considerable discussion regarding the matter
the Building Committee was requested to go in to t he matter
thoroughly and to make recommendations to the Zoning Commission.
Tax Assessor discussed the 1957 tax roll with the council.
Mr. Bishop, of the streets committee, gave a report of progress
on repair and rebuilding oc city streets and also called
attention to the many streets which are still badly in need of
repairs. Supt. Sheldon was instructed to proceed with the
repairing and rebu~lding of the streets as fast as possible.
Motion was made by Oswalt, seconded by Boyd and carried that
Mr. Sheldon be directed to engage a surveyor. to determine, and
permenantly mark, the four corners of Broome street between
Disston and Scott street s.
Nr. Boyd reported that an(c,Abstract Company were now preparing
a map, based on recorred deeds, of Chestnut street from 8th
street to West Avenue.
Mr. Oswalt rerroted that he had obtained an estimate of $300.00
for clearing, piling and burning thetrees on the cemetary
property purchased from Mr, Bauerle.
Motion was made by Oswalt, seconded by Boyd and carried that
Mr. Sheldon be authorized to have the trees cleared, piled
and burned on the cemetary property purchased from Mr. Baurele.
Clerk Johnson was instructed to contact Mr. T. C. Lustre of the
Traffic Safety Division of the State Road Department and urge
that an engineer be sent to Clermont to determine where a
directional sign would be allowed near the intersection of 50
& 27.
The matter of constructing a Boat ramp on Lake..HtIinneola and
within the limits of the City of Clermont was discussed.
Motion by Boyd, seconder by Bishop and carried that the matter
be reffered to the Parks Committee with the instructions that
they proceed with such construction.
Mayor Keene reported that a satisfactory arrange" ent had been
worked out between the colored and white base ball teams whereby
the city ball park would be available to both teams. Mr. Keene
further reported that the colored citizens had also agreed to
contll'ibute labor towal'd s the maintenance of the ball park.
Clp.rk Johnson was requested to contact Mr. Mims of the State
Road Department and determine if it would be possible to obtain
some st2te ~elp in prer~ring an ap~roach to v,ontrose street
from Highway "27".

Parker be refunded the amount of :,$20.00 for expenses to the
Police Officers convention.
~lotion by Boyd, seconded by Bishop and carried that the Police
department be authorized to purchase four tires for the
police car.
r':otion was made by Boyd, se onded by Bishop and carried that
the oity offer for sale lots 6, 7 & 8, Block 15, Sun~~side
Unit, and that the Clerk be directed to advertise for bids
in the local paper.
Clerk Johnson opened bids from Walker Chemical & Exterminating
Company, Orkin, and Clements Pest Control, for the treating
of the building occupied by r''ir. l"lilliam Boyd.
~:otion was made by Bishop, seconded by Boyd. and carried tgat
the contract be aNarded to the low bidder. The low bidder was
Clements Pest Control at a bid price of ~157.50.
The matter of codifying city Ordinances was discussed and
continued until the next meeting.

in the amount of ~pO.OO, for tyring, submitted by Carolyn
Stanley be paid.
Hot ion by Boyd, secondec by Bishop and carried that the matter
of painting the city hall be postponed for the present.
