A.DJOURNED r.IEETING
An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of
Clermont was held at the City Hall on Tuesday, April 15,1958.
The meeting was first called to order at Cooper Memorial Library
at 7:30 p.n. by Council President, Charles 'Roe, and adjourned
to the City Hall approximately thirty minutes later.

All members of the Council were present, as well as Nayor Keene,
Sup't. Sheldon, Attorney Morse, Chief Parker, Fireman Fullwood,
I'lrs. Thomas Smart, and Rev. Russell Carr.
The minutes of the meeting held on April 1,1958, were read and
approved as read.
r~rs. Smart and Rev. Carr spoke to the Council concerning the
possibility of the City granting permission to the woman's
Club to sponsor an amphitheatre on Lake Sunnyside Park.
!'Irs. Smart explained that it vlaS the intention of the \foman's
Club to urge other civic organizations to co-sponsor the project.
Mrs. Smart further stated that the project was only an idea at
the present time; that no plans had been made and no estimates
of cost were yet avail~)le.
Motion was made by Boyd, seconded by Oswalt, and carried, that
the \Joman' s Club be given permission to make the necessary est-.
imates of cost in order to determine if the project appeared'to
be practical to the Woman's Club, and that if the project did
appear to be practical to sqid Voman's Club that they would then
submit such plans to the City Council for final approval.
City Attorney ~orse reported that the City was progressing as
speedily as possible in bringin~ before the higher court an
appeal to a decision of the lower court relative to the injunction
brought against the City by Messrs. Schrmnmel and vialton of the
paving of Disston Avenue.
Hr. llorse also spoke at SOTIe length regarding the possibility
of the necessity of the City assuming the responsibility for
ambulance service in Clermont.
Hotion vlaS made by Oswalt, seconded by Boyd, and carried, that
Ci ty Attorney f10rse c ,ntact the dunicipal Code Company of
Tallahassee and request that they make the necessary survey of
City Ordinances and make an estLiate of the cost of codifying
our City Ordinances.
A discussion took place relative to the needed right-o-way for
continuing Chestnut Street from Eighth Street to West Avenue.
Meillbers of the Street Committee were to contact the abutting
property owners in an effort to determine if they were satisfied
with the proposed right-o-way and if they woVld give the necessary
deeds for same.
r'~otion was made by Boyd, seconded by Carrington, and carried,
that Sup't. Sheldon be authorized to put all hourly workers on
a five week day basis during those months,which in his opinion,
such a program is practical, provided that it is understood that
when overtime is necessary that it will be at prevailing rates
and further provided that the best interest of the City be con-
sidered at all times.

Mrs. Ca,.Tington, chairman of the Building Committee, reported
that ~1,150.00 in building permits had been issued since the
last meeting of the Council.
Motion was made by Bishop, seconded by Boyd, and carried, that
the application by Mr. E.O.Hodge for group housing on Lots 4 & 35 -
~h of Lots 3 & 36 - Block 2 - Homedale, be granted with the
understanding that the house on the DeSoto street side is to have
a set-back from the street of not less than twenty five (25) feet
and that it is to face DeSoto.
hayor Keene stated that a resident of the City desired per-
mission to place a pair of swans in Center Lake. fIotion was
made by Oswalt, seconded by Boyd, and carried, that permission
be granted.
Mayor Keene stated that f~. ~illiam Anderson had requested
permission to place a number of advertising benches around
Center Lake. Permission refused.

)\layor Keene stated that III'. Surber had requested that the City'
remove certain trees from tne street in front of his property.
Mayor Keene was informed that the City would not remove the trees
nor would Mr. Surber be given permission to move them.
Mayor Keene brought up the question of house trailers being
parked within the linits of the City. After checking the house
trailer Ordinance, it was found that house trailers were not
allowed in any part of the City, excepting, regular trailer
courts, and Chief Parker was directed to see that the Ordinance
was enforced.
IiI'. Sheldon reported that to-date, he had been unable to have
a demonstration of curbing machines, but hoped to have such a
demonstration in the near future.
Chairman Roe suggested, and HI'S. Carrington offered and moved,
the adoption of the following RESOLUTIOK:
HHERCAS it is apparent to this Council that the
City of Clermont is badly in need of the facilities
and advantages of a modern Community Building,
NOH, T'SREFORE, BE IT RJ:I:SOLVED that this Council
bear in mir.d the need for a Community Building
whenever and \vherever financial assistance is
solicited by any person, agency and/or organization,
in an effort to conserve the resources and reserves
of the City toward the completion of said proposed
project. Feeling that the benefit to the entire
community should be uppermost in the over-all plan,
requests for money for other proposed projects of
a similar nature will be dealt vith conservatively.
The motion for the adoption of the Resolution was seconded
by Lir. Oswalt and unanimously carried.
I-lotion by Boyd, seconded by Bishop, that bills be paid.
l"lr. Oswalt nominated III'. George Nagel to TJlembership on the
local ~oning_Commission' to serve the remainder ,of this year.
No other nominations were offered, and Mr. Nagel was declared
unanimously elected.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
