ADJOURNED MEETING

An adjourned meeting of the City Council of the
City of Clermont was held in the office of the City Clerk
on Tuesday - June l6~ 1959. The meeting was called to order
at 7:30 P.M. with all council members present. Other officials
present were:: Clerk Johnson, Deputy Clerk Dolores Williams,
Sup't. Sheldon, City Attorney Morse, Bldg. In$pector Snyder,
Chief of Police Tyndal and Patrolman Fullwood. Others present
were: Mr. Ralph Harper, Mr. O.H.Englund and Mr. John Dresser,
along with representatives of both the Orlando Sentinel ana
the local Press.
The minutes of the regular meeting held June 2, 1959
were read and approved.
Mr. Ra~ph Harper presented a petition signed by 125
interested citizens urging that the City Council make every
effort toward prevailing upon the State Road Department to
install a traffic light at the intersection of 5th street and
State Road # 50. Messrs. Englund and Dresser also spoke in
behalf of the petition. Chr. Roe advised the delegation that
safety engineers of the State Road Department were at the present
time making a survey of the situation and would make recommendationf
in the very near future. Chr. Roe further assured the delegation
that they could expect full cooperation from the Council.
Police Chief Tyndal reported that in his opinion that
speeding through the City on Highway # 50 had been materially
reduced since appearance bonds had been raised to $50.00. Chief
Tyndal further reported that he had been invited to speak at a
traffic safety meeting to be held by Mid-State Hauling Company
of Orlando.
Mr. Oswalt suggested, that in the absence of Mayor Hullinger,
Chro Roe direct the Police Department to see that those signs
in violation of City Ordinances located at the various filling
stations at the intersection of Highway # 50 and 5th Street, be
removed. The Police Department was so directed by Chr. Roe.
Chr. Roe read a letter from the Board of Lake County
Commissioners wherein a request was made that the City make
available to Hunnicutt & Associates, without charge~ its records
of real property valuations in order to asssist the County in
re-valuing all property. Clerk Johnson was requested to advise
the Lake Connty Board of Commissioners that the City would coo-
perate; in every way possible with them, but that they felt that
a complete understanding between the Board of County Commissioners
and the various municipalities of Lake County was in order; this
reason being that the City of Clermont desired to know in what
manner County valuation records would be mad~ available to them
in the future.

Mr. Boyd, Chr. of the Water Committee, reported that he
was receiving numerous complaints with regards to low water
pressure. A general discussion followed and'it was concensus of
opinion that additional water mains would have to be laid just
as soon as possible. The Water Department Committee agreed to
consult with Sup't. Sheldon and determine the amount and size of
water mains needed and to furnish the purchasing agent with a
list of same in order that he might solicit bids.

Mr. Oswalt, Chr. of the Streets Committee, reported that
a number of City streets had been sand sealed within the past
few weeks and that the sand spreader was now working excellently,
and that its usage was eliminating several laborers. Mr. Sheldon
was directed to construct a curb around a pine tree in front of
Mrs. Kay Libberton's, property on East Magnolia.
Mr. Boyd reported that he had received a request that the
tennis courts in Kehlor Park be prepared for use by the public.
Mr. Christenson, Chr. of the Parks Committee, requesued that
Sup't. Sheldon line off the courts immediately, put up the net,
and that as soon as possible the court be widened s~fficiently
for two doubles court.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. Carroll Cook wherein
Mr. Cook made a request for an easement on the lake front pro-
perty lying directly west of Lot 9, Block 4. Motion was made by
Mr. Oswalt, seconded by Mr. Christenson and carried, that Mr.
Cook be granted the usual easement on the usual terms.
Clerk ~hnson reported that he had received an offer in
the amount of $700.00 from Mr. Caughell for the City owned house
located at 615 8th street provided that he be allowed to move
the house to a location in the N~ of Block 123, Sunset Hts.
Motion was made by Mr. Middleton, seconded by Mr. Oswalt, and
carried, that Clerk Johnson be authorized to accept Mr. Caughell's
offer and that Mr. Caughell be allowed to move the house to the
location above stated provided that he meets with all zoning re-
quirements.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. Clayton Weir pro-
testing the burning of trash at the garbage dump on old Hwy.
# 50 west of Cler-Grove. Clerk Johnson was requested to advise
Mr. Weir that this matter should be taken up with the Lake County
Health Department.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Mr. Joe BonJorn requesting
a exclusive franchise from the City of Clermont for the operation
of a taxi-cab sergice. Clerk ~hnson was requested to advise
Mr. Bon Jorn that under the conditions of the City's Charter and
existing City Ordinances, the granting of exclusive franchises
was prohibited.
Motion was made by Mr. Middleton, seconded by Mr. Oswalt,
and carried, that a bill in the amount of $112.50 due Eric Jensen,
be paid. Motion made by Mr. Boyd, seconded by Mr. Oswalt, and
carried, that a bill in the amount of $24.00 due Sperry Auto
Sales, be paid.
Mr. Boyd offered and moved that it be passed a RESOLUTION
lamenting the loss of the late Hoss C. Cantwell. The motion was
seconded by 11r. Oswalt and unanimously carried. A copy follows.
Motion was made by Mr. Middleton, seconded by Mr. Boyd, and
carried, that the following listed tax statements be canceled as
they had been assessed through error, or, were now uncolleJtible.
#1748 - $5.08;,' 18331 - $5.08; 1842 "- $.73; 1905 - $4.35;
1964 - $2.90;' 1972~ $2.16; 2034 ~ $2.18; 2046 - $1.45;v
451 - $.73' for a total of $24.68.

Clerk Johnsnn read a petition from citizens of the Lincoln
Park area requesting the paying of certain streets in that section
and further requesting information the proper method in ~mich to
handle the matter. Clerk Johnson was requested to furnish the
petitioners with the necessary information.

Clerk Johnson read a series of letters and copies of
letters from Mr. V.A.Oswalt and the Lake County Health Dep't.
regarding the water~ble level of Hiawatha Shores.
Motion was made by Mr. Boyd, seconded by Mr. Middleton,
and carried, that the Streets Committee make every effort toward
having the Board of Lake County Commissioners pass a RESOLUTION
authorizing the re-surfacing of that part of State Road # 561
from Minneola Avenue to Montrose Street and from 8th Street to
12th Street prior to its being turned back to the City of Clermont
for general maintenance.
A general discussion followed pertaining to the proposed
Civic Center/ Community Bldg. Various opinions were expressed
but an agreement was reached that the first step was for the
Council to decide approximately what they desired and then to
ask various architects to submit studies and elevations. The
Council appeared to agree that the building should have a seating
capacity approximating 750, a small stage, kitchen facilities
adequate to serve approximatley 500, adequate storage, office and
cloak room space, with the auditorium to be so constructed that
it may be divided by ffi$ni-fold doors.
Motion was made by ~~. Oswalt, seconded by Mr. Boyd and
carried, that meeting adjourn.
