RECULAR t-1El':TING
A regular meetine of the of the City Council of the City of {
Clermont was held at the City hall on Tuesday, August 6, 195~
The meetine w~s called to order at 7:30 P. M. with all Cour.lc~il
members rresent withthe exception of Mrs. Carrington.
Others present were Nayor Keene, City attorney Norse, Supt.
Sheldon, Police Chief Parker, Fireman FulD~ood, Nr. Joist,
Mr. Abrahams, Er. Blliott, Mr. Boykin and Mr. OVNeal.
Hr. Spillers came in later in the meeting.
The minutes of the meeting held July 16, 1957, were read
and approved. ~
Mr. Joist spoye to the council with rerards to the city
furnishing water to his developement just outside the city
limits. Jl1r. Joist wes informed that it would be necessary
for him to bear th,0 expense of all water mains, fire hydrant s,
and feeder lines within his subdivision after which the citjl'
would then furnish v-rater to home owners at regular rates plus
twenty five percent. This was agre3able to Nr. Joist and
he stated that he would pay for the installations in advance
as soon as he l...ras informed of an est imate. Hr. Sheldon was
instructed to meet with hr. Joist and make a survey and estjupate.
f.1r. Abrahams spoke to the Council with regards insurance for
city employees and left material for them to consider.
Hr. Spillers spol{e to the Council reearding their acceptance
of his plat of ~.finona Shores.
Hotion was made by ~~oe, seconded by Van Nostrand and carried
that the rr.ayor and city clerk sign the plat of l'Jinona Shorel:!
when performance bJnd, or escr~~ money, covering the paving,
of streets in said developement is posted by Mr. James
Sp~llers, with such approval and signing of the plat subject
t.:. the approval of thf"' deed of' ot'lnership by the city attorney.

Clerk write to the Internal Improvement 'rrustee s in an eff01:,t
to determine the af'ency which protect s the bound arie s of lake s
and the authority which enforces nay laws governing same.
Clerk Johnson opened bids for the paving of Palm lane from
Anderson to Disston and Disston from ~ake Shore drive to
Nint'1ehaha Avenue as follo!'1s: Boykin and Elliott; 22,067.00:,
J. D. r-:anley: 25,92P.75, Hubbard Construction Co.: 27,091.75,
and J. H. Richey: 24,398.85.

Xotion by Van Nostrand that the cost per front foot to the
property owners be determined and that said property owners
be informed of such cost e,nd that said priperty owners be
informed that in the absence of any state from them to the
contrary t~1at the city v'Jould assume the$L,were favorable to
the construction. The motion was seconded by ~r. Bishop and
carried.
r~otion by Van IJostrand, seconded by Hoe and carr'led that the
bids on the street construct ion be turned over to I'll'. 0' Neal
for study, analysis, and to be reduced to a per foot cost
basis for Palm Lane and a per foot cost basis for Disston
Avenue.

Eot ion ~-Je.s made by Roe, sec anded by Bishop and carried that
the Council write a letter to N~. Cook and request that he
remove the temporary building wnich he has errected on the
old city parking lot as soon as possible.
f:i8yor Keene stated that he did not have any business to diseuss
with the Council
A general discussion took place r8f,arding proposed valuations
on city property, as submitted by the tax assessorp and it was
av~eed that pboperty abuttine highway 27 appeared to be low in
comparison to other property of like value.

that the bond furnished by Arthur George for a duplicate Tax
S~le certificate for tax sale certificate number 6, for 1955
taxe s on lot 1, Block 9, Sunset He ight s be approved,.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Ivjr. Danie I ~'Je stbrook where in
l\ir. vJestbrook complained of the many anonymous telephone calls
'ltJhich his t'vife, and other la.dies in the city, t'Jere receiving.
Mr. Westbrook further stated that his rok made it necessary for
him to be out of the city much of the time and that the 'phone
calls Nere a considerable source of worry to both his wife and
himself.
hot ion was made by Hoe, secondeo by Ilan Nostrand and carried
that the city clf'rk write to l'lr. i;iox Wettsteinp President of
the Florida ~elephone Corporation, and inform him that
extremely numerous anonymous telephone calms were being made
in the city of Clermont; that such calls were of a lewd and
unsavory ncture and that point had now been reached where
some steps must be taken to correct the condition. A reply
to the letter to be requested.
Clerk Johnson read a letter from Cooper l\iemorial Library
requesting the remaining five hundred dollars due them as
budgeted. I';otion wC's made by Van l\Yostrand, Seconded by Bishop
and carried that the clerk issue Cooper l\:emorial Library a
check in the amount of five hundred do~lars as budgeted.
notion by Roe, seconded by Van r:ostrand and carried that the
City clerk write to Hunnycutt 0; Associates of St. Petersburg
and advise them that the city would like to enter into a
contract with them for the revaluation of the real property
in the city of Clermont; and th8.t the Nayob and city Clerk
be directed to execute such contract when received from
said Hunnycutt & Associates.

the following Personal property tax asse ssment s be canceled

follm~ing Personal property tax assessments be canceld as
being uncollectable: Palm Shoe Co., statement 11 1673 in the
amount of ;40.00; P81m Shoe Co., statement ft 1573 in the
amount of ;~40.00 (1955 tax); and Amoco Station, statement
Ir ll!.7~ in the 8mount ofS24.00 (1955 tax).
